I connect especially well with LGBTQIA+ folx, veterans, spiritual seekers, and anyone healing from religious trauma or harmful narratives.
You didn’t land here by accident, some part of you knows it’s time for change that actually sticks. Reaching out for therapy can feel like a risk, and if you’re reading this, I want to honor the courage it took to get this far. I work with people navigating their story through trauma that lingers, identity shifts, spiritual disconnection, anxiety, grief, and the ache of old wounds. Together, we’ll explore your story in a way that centers you, your pace, your needs and your voice.

Tired of reliving past trauma? Have you ever wondered how life would have been different had you had access to therapy? Have you ever felt misunderstood? Ignored? Your past is not your story and your story begins now! Have you ever felt that you are existing instead of living? Sometimes these mere thoughts are just negative cognitions that are imbedded from our lived experiences. Those perceived "bad” or “damaged” parts that are created, are actually invitations to connect and heal from your past. Therapy is scary! Vulnerability is even scarier! Let me walk alongside you as you uncover your true authentic self.

I believe this, and being a therapist has prepared me to work with my fellow veterans and first responders.
More and more people are having trouble knowing who they are or where they belong in life. What we were taught growing up or what we learn from society doesn't make sense or apply any longer. Because of this, we have difficulties, from depression to questioning our own belief system. It may appear as confusion, anxiety, anger, or anything that disrupts our day-to-day life. When we feel this way, it is a hurt or loss that is almost impossible to describe. My type of counseling presents people with an opportunity to understand why and how they think and feel the way they do and to go deeper than they could have possibly imagined!

My background as a military veteran fuels my commitment to trauma-informed approaches.
Each of us experiences moments in life when we are not sure what path to take. We may feel disconnected from our values, distant from those we most want to be close to, and out of balance in our daily rhythm. In the midst of overwhelm, we know something needs to change yet we may not easily see what that is. It may also be that we know what we want to change but we encounter challenges from others or from seemingly immovable obstacles in our world. At times like these, we need a wingman; someone who knows how to help us utilize our strengths so we can chart a course toward what matters most. I would be honored to be your wingman.

I specialize in helping men, veterans, and responders build connected, purposeful lives.
If you're looking this page over, you're likely wondering if therapy with me could improve your life. If you are in the middle of a major change or looking to make one, I might be your guy. Most of us find major changes difficult because the skills and knowledge we have isn't geared for what we're hoping to do next. This is where having an outside perspective can go a long way. I love helping people in these transitions and have built my practice to make sure you get the best care possible.

I believe that nurturing safety in the therapeutic relationship through non-judgment, transparency, and genuine warmth and humor creates space for my clients to do the hard work of therapy. I welcome all parts you may bring to the session, whether that is sadness, loneliness, joy, chaos, anger, or shame (and everything in between) to support you in creating your roadmap to healing. I take a person-centered and trauma-informed approach while utilizing my training in several evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, ACT, DBT, and CBT.

Veterans Therapists

Why is mental health important for veterans and the military?

Veterans are more likely to face mental health challenges than the general public, and such mental health challenges can make it difficult for them to navigate day-to-day life. Improved mental health can result in better interpersonal relationships, lower levels of stress, and decreased dependence on substances, such as drugs or alcohol, for many veterans. Addressing common mental health conditions can also help facilitate recovery from physical health challenges that are faced by many veterans, such as chronic pain, physical injury, or poor sleeping patterns. Therapists trained in working with veterans can help address these concerns and help improve veteran mental health.

How can veterans get access to mental health support?

There are many resources for veterans to get mental health support, including through the VA or through their primary care doctor. Many service personnel are eligible for free or reduced-cost mental health counseling through the VA, depending on their service history and current income. Veterans can also utilize online directories, such as Psychology Today, or nonprofit organization resources like the Wounded Warrior Project, to find a therapist or other healthcare professional that specializes in their specific mental health needs. Veterans may also benefit from community-based groups that facilitate social connection and/or address specific concerns, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

What type of therapy is best for veterans?

Veterans may benefit from multiple types of therapy, depending on what mental health challenges they are facing. Veterans seeking therapy for anxiety or depression may benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which encourage clients to understand how their thought patterns influence their behavior. Veterans with PTSD may seek other more specialized forms of therapy to treat trauma symptoms, such as EMDR or exposure therapy. Many veterans and military personnel may also benefit from family or couples counseling to address the stress and adjustment challenges that can be associated with military life.

Can therapy for veterans help with trauma and PTSD?

Therapy can be highly effective in helping veterans with trauma and PTSD. Therapists specializing in veteran mental health often have extensive training and experience helping veterans navigate symptoms of trauma and can teach clients coping techniques to handle common symptoms associated with trauma and PTSD. Some therapists may use talk therapy as their primary approach, while others utilize more structured therapy modalities in sessions, such as EMDR. Veterans can try multiple therapy modalities to find the best fit for them. Therapists can also help make referrals or connect clients with available resources, such as VA benefits, to help address other life concerns.
