My background includes childhood sexual abuse,
Traumatic Brain
Injury, drug abuse, depression, anxiety, toxic relationships, as well as other sources of psychological distress.
Life is unpredictable and challenging. Whether due to a life changing event that occurs in the blink of an eye, or circumstances existing for years or even decades, inevitably we all experience periods in our lives where we feel overwhelmed, isolated, inadequate, depressed, anxious, or even broken. Often these feelings are the byproduct of stress or even trauma. If not properly managed, the effects of stress and trauma will eventually have a detrimental effect on our careers, and, more importantly, our personal relationships and families. In some cases, our personal relationships may actually be the source of the stress or trauma.

Stressors related to work, relationships, medical conditions and other key areas of life occur every single day, and sometimes they may become overwhelming and out of control. Most of the time, we are able to help ourselves out of these types of situations, but there are times when it is too challenging to handle alone. When that happens, we often find ourselves stuck and unable to react, or continue to use solutions that may not be the best for us. It can be very draining and demotivating, and spiraling out of control. We sometimes want someone to find a solution for us, while at other times, we just want someone to listen to us.

Are you an athlete who struggles with anxiety before a big game, as you walk onto the practice field, or even as you sit at home? Or perhaps you are someone who is looking to better your mental well-being, improve your sleep, sharpen your focus, or decrease your anxiety and/or depressive symptoms. Whatever the objective may be, I can help you visualize and achieve your goals through neurofeedback and counseling.

Are you someone who has experienced a traumatic event and are suffering with the after-effects including anxiety, hypervigilence, chronic pain, unexplained fatigue, driving anxieties related to a car crash, out of proportion fears and a gripping overwhelm related to dealing with life? Maybe you sense that your emotions affect your physical condition and vise versa. Despite the pain, confusion and overwhelm you might be experiencing right now, I believe that the body has an innate ability to heal. Together we can create a pathway of healing that will allow you to find the peace you deserve.

I am an integrative neurotherapist/psychotherapist, trauma specialist, and owner of an integrative brain-body wellness center called NeuroGrove. The people that come to us are often struggling with cognitive or emotional challenges, such as anxiety, posttraumatic stress, depression, attention deficits, memory issues, "mystery illnesses", or lasting effects following a concussion/brain injury. Many of these clients' struggles have not been adequately resolved through conventional medicine or psychotherapy alone, or they are looking for effective natural alternatives. For more information, see our website: www.neurogrove.com

Our office strives to help each individual use their visual system (not just their eyes) to gather and process information quicker, more efficiently, with less energy. Our office sees children who have been labelled, adults with head injuries and anyone who wants to perform better. Better performance in the Therapy Room should lead to better performance in the real world.

The concept of Peace is an integral part of my experiences & represents what I have seen others strive for in their struggles. Finding & developing Peace within one's life is an ongoing & proactive journey that often requires the support of others. This path to a sense of serenity and balance allows one not only to experience calm before the storm, but to be calm within the storm. Everyone deserves unconditional positive regard while developing their identity, making changes in their lives, or simply looking for validation within a non-judgmental environment.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists
When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.
What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.
How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?
The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.
What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?
If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
