I’m a psychologist and I help fearful, yet motivated people reclaim themselves from trauma, anxiety, burnout and loss of sleep to feel grounded and re-engaged in their lives.
Have you experienced trauma or a series of stressful events? Are you so anxious you struggle to enjoy your life? Do you startle or cry easily? Do you wonder who you really are because you are so burned out? Has your sleep changed for the worse? Do you have upsetting nightmares? You’re starting to think you might need to talk to someone. You wonder if life can be better and you wonder where to start.

The anxieties and worries that constantly invade our mind can be incredibly difficult to live with. We often respond to this by either trying to be superficially positive and “pushing through” or we become regularly overwhelmed by waves of anxiety, panic and chronic stress. If you’ve gotten to a point where the frustration and anguish of anxiety, disruption of sleep and ineffective ways of dealing with those things have reached a crisis point, let’s work together on coming up with new, more effective responses that can tangibly change and improve your life in an ongoing and ultimately fulfilling way.

As a clinician, I am passionate about empowering you to meet your own specific goals. My counseling is based on the premise that people have an intrinsic ability to improve and grow when provided with the appropriate tools and experiences. These tools can be refined, learned, and practiced in therapy. While I work with a wide array of issues, I most commonly help people through difficult life transitions, grief and loss, and symptoms of anxiety and depression. I also have a background and specialization in the treatment of addictions and insomnia .

Are you struggling with feeling worthy? Does it feel like if you could just find the right self help book or self care tool, you’d also find a full connected meaningful life? Perhaps it's a traumatic experience, unhelpful patterns in your relationships, or undiagnosed ADHD keeping you stuck. As an experienced clinician I am convinced that we are all worthy, and it is only through developing that loving relationship with ourselves that we can feel worthy. When we learn how to like ourselves, how to LOVE ourselves, our relationships deepen, our sleep improves, and we are more able to take those essential steps to live our best life.

I am a generalist, but have particular expertise working with older adults, caregiver stress, and treating insomnia via CBT-i and ACT.
Counseling can serve as a unique place to learn about yourself, manage distress better, and enhance the quality of your life. Whether you're looking for short or long term assistance, I am an experienced therapist who can help. I am a firm believer that we all possess the basic capacity to heal and grow from all of our struggles, if we have the right conditions for doing so: adequate understanding, space, and permission. I have been honored to be a facilitator of that space for so many over the past decade of my service as a licensed psychologist.

I provide specialty care for adults struggling with anxiety or trauma related symptoms. These challenges can show up in many different ways- from physical symptoms, intrusive thoughts or worry, relationship difficulties, sleep problems, and changes in behaviors that begin to make life smaller and smaller. We are all doing the best we can and apply many creative strategies to get away from distress. However, these strategies often begin to backfire and get in the way of the things we want the very most.

This can lead to many changes - better mood regulation, increased attention span, reduced anxiety, better sleep , and a reduction in migraines and other body symptoms.
Are you tired of being stuck in past trauma? Tried talk therapy and it hasn't helped with the anxiety? I practice a type of neurofeedback that directly influences the Autonomic Nervous System, allowing your brain to "rewire". My work helps to facilitate emotional regulation and a sense of balance and relaxation in a comfortable, supportive setting. It is important to me that each client feel heard and understood, and that the work we do brings about improvements in one's overall level of functioning.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
