My work with families is grounded in my belief that children and parents "do well if they can" and that any parent ’s deepest desire is to see their child succeed. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where children and teens are able to work through challenging emotions, develop better self-regulation in moments of distress, improve their self-esteem, and feel more connected in their relationships. I specialize in working with youth who are GT and twice-exceptional, and those who struggle with anxiety and fitting in: helping them to explore identity issues and gain confidence in valuing what makes them unique and special.

When you’re neck-deep in the struggle of parenting a child with special needs, taking the step to start your own therapy probably feels impossible. It might feel like just one more thing demanding your attention, one more appointment to keep straight, one more person telling you everything you’re doing wrong. My goal is to help you to feel more grounded and regulated so that all of the other things demanding your attention feel more manageable. I hope to support your parenting journey with a unique skillset that can address both your mental health needs, and bolster your skills around behavior management.

I work with parents and caregivers that are experiencing parenting challenges. Perhaps you are a first time parent learning about your baby and their development while also struggling with postpartum depression/anxiety/trauma. Maybe you are the parent of a teenager that has seemed more depressed or anxious lately, and you are unsure what to do. Do you have a toddler that is testing limits and throwing tantrums, and you are trying to remain patient and 'keep your cool'? I also work with teens 14+ navigating anxiety, depression, and school & relationship challenges.

Depression, anxiety, fertility issues, parenting , relationships–these are a few of my specialty areas.
Hello! As a licensed professional counselor candidate, we’ll work together to find an inner sense of balance in your life. Sometimes, that looks like practicing mindfulness or utilizing somatic tools to manage challenging internal states–anxiety, depression, grief or sadness. Other times, that may look like exploring the intricacies of a difficult situation or relationship. Ultimately, the goal is to come back to a sense of joy.

I have enjoyed a long career working with children, adolescents & adults in a variety of settings (schools, residential treatment centers, outpatient clinics). As a therapist at Jewish Family Service, I see a variety of clients who are addressing issues related to depression, anxiety, family/relationship/ parenting problems, adolescence, past trauma, etc. I use a combination of cognitive-behavioral and supportive therapy, with an emphasis on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, to help my clients discover new & effective ways to manage their emotions, cope with life's stresses, and take committed actions to attain their goals.

I am a certified Parent Child Interaction Therapy therapist (PCIT), I have training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and I have extensive experience working with children with a variety of chronic health conditions.
I often hear parents say things such as “I love my child but I’m not enjoying being around them anymore” or “I can’t get any alone time because my child always needs to be with me”. Do you ever wish there was a manual for parenting ? Have you tried everything but nothing seems to work to manage their behavior or anxiety? Does your child have a chronic health condition that is becoming overwhelming to manage? Maybe parenting is confusing and no longer feels fulfilling. You’re in the right place. You’ve already taken a step toward feeling confident in parenting and managing the challenges of life.

This season of life doesn’t feel the way you expected it to. Maybe you’re in the throes of parenting and feeling overcome with “mom guilt” (despite how hard you work) or noticing your own childhood experiences impacting the way you parent . From the outside looking in, it may look like you have it all together, but inside you actually feel anxious, unmotivated, or just plain numb. Your relationships are struggling: it’s like you can’t focus or truly connect with the people closest to you. You believe life doesn’t have to stay this way, but you’ve reached a point where you don’t think you can do this on your own anymore.

Using EMDR & Pia Mellody's Post-Induction Therapy (PIT), I work with people like you with a variety of issues related to codependency, relational trauma, depression, anxiety, parenting struggles, relationship issues, & pregnancy/postpartum.
You're not sure why, but the people you love most: your kids, spouse, mother/father/siblings-have turned into triggers that bring out the worst in you. Despite your love for them, you find yourself acting in ways you swore you never would. You're yelling at your kids, always angry at your partner, and you feel like you're always failing. In short, you're hurting the people you love most. You want to show up for your loved ones with peace rather than chaos and stress. You want to ditch the feelings of not being enough.

Life leads to many instances where we feel overwhelmed, depleted, and in need of support. Maybe it is a life transition such as starting a new job, parenting , dealing with illness or the loss of a loved one, having an experience that left you scared or, perhaps something else. As people, we have the ability to heal, grow and transform our lives. Many times the path of healing feels stressful and is easier with the support of a counselor. Despite what our society often tells us; we do not have to bear this weight on our own and I am happy to help.

I have nearly 15 years of experience with families and individuals as well as extensive training in the following evidence-based interventions: Parent -Child Interaction Therapy, Problem Solving Therapy, Play Therapy (directive and non-directive), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
My approach to supporting clients relies on the neurobiological and systemic processes at work when challenging and traumatic events occur. I have been providing therapy and coaching services in Colorado for over a decade and specialize in delivering therapeutic care to complex trauma survivors of all ages. I have extensive knowledge in working with those who have a desire to increase their ability to navigate and process traumatic experiences, connect more meaningfully with their loved ones, and be more present and satisfied in their lives. Trauma isolates us; I believe that connection is our most powerful tool to fight back.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
