I specialize in
men's issues
and trauma. Often men are leaned upon and asked to be strong. Most of the time we are able to take on this challenge. Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and things become overwhelming. Anxiety or depression follow which can lead to pain in the form of unhealthy relationships, substance abuse, withdrawal, and anger. This can be confusing and frustrating; how can we be struggling when we are supposed to be strong, self-sufficient problem solvers? The good news is that therapy is an effective solution to these common male issues.

I offer individual, couples, and family psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and children (aged 8 and older), with a particular interest in
men's issues
.
My successful clients are active psychotherapy participants who are dedicated and motivated for change. Introspective, he/she thinks about therapy outside of the office and attempts to use the knowledge and insight gained to improve relationships, goals, and life satisfaction. At times, psychotherapy requires difficult work from both the therapist and client, and the outcome is predicated by the mutual effort vested in the therapeutic process.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, National Certified Counselor, Reiki Master, Medium, Shamanic practitioner, Meditation teacher, Spiritual guide and Life coach. Throughout my life I've had experiences that led me to search for more than the traditional therapeutic approach to heal. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health and owned a spiritual business five years prior to earning my degree. I believe that for one to truly heal, there needs to be healing in the mind, body, heart and soul.

It takes a great deal of courage and humility to seek out a therapist. If your own life, your romantic relationship, or both are leaving you unsatisfied, stuck, or unhappy, I commend you for considering outside help. The support of people whom I trust and who care for me – including my own therapist – has been instrumental to my own healing and growth. I would be honored to provide you with that same partnership in your journey of change. When we combine my training in therapy with your knowledge of who you are and where you want to go, we can identify meaningful goals together and help you progress toward them.

Just a few years ago I was caught up in a cycle of self-doubt, shame, and failure. I was early on in adulthood and already I felt completely worn out; convinced my life would end in ruins. Eventually I was able to seek counseling, and this became a major factor in helping me find a new sense of hope and freedom. I became a counselor out of a desire to share this gift with others. I seek to create a safe space where my clients can find new hope in their journey. When you walk into my office, I want you to know that you are welcome here; you belong, and you matter.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
