I enjoy being a Marriage and Family Therapist because it examines the influences throughout a person's life that have made them who they are.
As first generation to Indian parents, I saw my parents struggle with cultural differences. They were raised with similar upbringings; however, their beliefs about relationships were starkly different. I never witnessed them talking about their struggles, but rather, they seemed to view their relationship as what was to be expected. Witnessing this relationship dynamic taught me the importance of bringing differences to the forefront. We get so many messages about who we are supposed to be from family, friends, and society. Relationships bring two people with multi-faceted identities together, therefore, it's only natural for relationship issues to arise.

My areas of focus are those who may be struggling with issues related to depression, anxiety, body image and self esteem I also work with individuals and couples around relationship and communication issues, including pre marital counseling, infidelity and infertility.
My mission, as a professional counselor is simple: Create a safe and respectful space where my clients can honestly explore, and learn from their personal stories. It is a true honor and privilege to facilitate these personal moments of discovery, that are often raw, difficult and challenging.

Hi! I'm Kevin Petersen MA, LMFT Founder of The Chronic Hope Institute I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with offices in Colorado and Florida.
If you've ever asked the question, "“What do we do with our family member whose drug use and drinking is out of control?” you are not alone. I started The Chronic Hope Institute with the intention of offering my answer to that question—one I get almost every day. You have a much greater chance for success if the whole family, not just the addict, is engaged in recovery. My plan is quick and to the point so we can triage the immediate problem. Then, only once we put the initial fire out, would we spend more time addressing the bigger issues.

I provide counseling that centers on supporting a healthy means of helping clients on an individual, marital, and family level. Emotional responses to life stress often derail and distract us from adjusting and maintaining good health. In facing challenges it's important to take care of yourself and those you love by getting the support and help you need. I enjoy working with clients of all ages to address both individual and relationship issues.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist I believe that our biggest personal challenges often manifest in our relationships and it is in our relationships where we have the biggest opportunities for growth.
I work with couples and individuals who are struggling to overcome habitual patterns of behavior that are preventing them from experiencing a satisfying connection with each other and themselves. If you and your partner have experienced betrayal, addiction issues or have simply allowed your relationship to become stagnant, I can help you find your way back to a secure and fulfilling bond. I use a blend of therapeutic techniques including Brainspotting to help you first understand and then have a new experience of yourself and your partner.

My formal educational training is a master's degree and licensure in counseling and marriage and family therapy.
I work collaboratively with people to help them create the lives they want -- in their relationships, families, recreation and work. This process of exploration and discovery is inspiring and taps into hopes, dreams and imagination through story and re-connecting and remembering memories and experiences of connection and joy in their lives. Clients who benefit most from working with me are usually bright, creative and interested in freeing themselves from the constraints of family, social and cultural expectations that have become internalized and held as truths. This is a way of finding your way home ... to where your heart is.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am passionate about working with people in relationships who struggle with communication, connection, or conflict resolution. This often takes place in couples therapy or family therapy with adult family members. I also greatly appreciate working with LGBTQ+ clients. I am acutely aware of the various issues we face in terms of identity, safety, and living life in a heteronormative culture and the effect on the queer community. My clients value having an accepting space for them to explore their identity and relationships and to feel authentic.

I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist since 2009. In that time I have had the pleasure of working with adults and teenagers in various settings all with their own unique personalities. I like to create an open communication style of therapy. One where you will feel comfortable talking with me and I with you. Working with me should feel comfortable, at times I will push you to identify your patterns and push past them, however we do this together.
