I use combination of mindfulness, Internal
Family Systems
, & psychodynamic principles to help you better understand yourself & why you experience the feelings you do.
**Currently full - waitlist available** Life satisfaction is most closely correlated to the quality of relationships you have with others & most importantly, the quality of relationship you have with yourself. These can both be improved by better understanding your past & adapting how you respond in the present. Together, we practice new ways of experiencing difficult emotions to make them more manageable & less threatening. We will explore & better understand the stories you hold of who you ARE, who you SHOULD be, & how these formed over time which can result in increased self-understanding & self-compassion.

I utilize a client-centered, integrative approach drawing from various theoretical frameworks, but primarily practicing from an Internal
Family Systems
(
IFS
) lens.
"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our story is the bravest thing we'll ever do." ~Brene Brown~ Have you found life hasn't turned out the way you expected? Sometimes that can be a wonderful thing, and other times that reality can be frustrating to accept or work through. I believe those frustrations, when left unaddressed, can and often do lead to feelings of depression and/or anxiety, and can also put a strain on relationships. I believe therapy should be a safe space to give voice to those frustrations and an opportunity for healing.

I am also training in EMDR and
IFS
-informed interventions.
I believe that we all deserve to have the experience of being truly seen, heard, understood, and known. Experiencing this in the context of a therapeutic relationship can be scary, but is often transformational. I aim to create a safe, warm, and authentic environment where we can explore your story together. Through curiosity and a nonjudgmental approach, I help clients feel the feelings tied to their history, discern patterns that have them stuck, and develop their innate strengths. This process brings about more self-understanding, peace, and lasting change. It is a true honor and joy to work with those on their healing journey.

I use a variety of therapy modalities, including EMDR and Internal
Family Systems
, to meet you where you are at.
Maybe society has told you that you are different, weird, or wrong. Perhaps you have developed a critical inner voice that tells you that you aren’t good enough. Shame can make you feel unworthy of the love and respect you deserve. Together, I believe we can overcome that shame and work towards self-love and empowerment. I am passionate about working with transgender and gender-nonconforming folks, individuals who work in the sex work industry, and folks who are struggling with all types of trauma. All identities are welcome and honored in the therapy space with me.

" Some of the main modalities I use to guide clients towards greater self-awareness and those "I got it" moments are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Internal
Family Systems
(
IFS
), and attachment theory.
The question, "why now?" is one of the most simplistic, yet deeply profound questions to ask when deciding to enter therapy. Discovering your "why" is one of the first steps of moving towards what therapy is ultimately about: self-awareness. As a therapist, I don't claim to have all the answers or a magic cure. In fact, I think the most lasting changes in therapy occur as clients come to a deeper self-awareness of their own lives. I view my role as a therapist as being able to partner with clients and walk alongside them as they journey towards greater self-awareness.

IFS
(Internal

) to help bring our bodies and minds back into alignment during times of stress or after trauma.
My approach to counseling combines the individual's needs with awareness of larger systems that we exist in. I use a matter-of-fact, down-to-earth and sometimes humorous approach to talking about difficult things. My work is especially effective queer (LGBTQ+) and neurodivergent people, including ADHD, autism and OCD. Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
