Divorce Dynamics - It's All About The Kids
JD, BA, Cert, COACH, MEDIATE
Second, that we flesh out where you want your
family
to be at the end of the process, and create and implement a road map that gets you to that compelling future.
It's all about the kids! If you focus on their well-being rather than the ensuing battle, your children will have a shot at a brighter future. You are their parent first and foremost, and it is your obligation to guide them through the trauma of divorce to a place of stability and comfort.

Fulfilling, secure relationships are attainable and take consistent, dedicated work. My job is to be the training wheels on your metaphorical bicycle and assist you in launching towards your goals. Whether you are coming in looking to improve communication skills or on the brink of a breakup or a
family
meltdown, I strongly believe it is never too early or too late to start therapy. These same sentiments also apply to my work in assessments. Through all of my testing, I’m looking for strengths.

Whether you are wanting support with
family
, platonic, or romantic relationships or all of the above, I can help.
Do you feel like you keep attracting unhealthy romantic partners? In relationships do you find yourself often people pleasing and putting your needs second? Sometimes even when we think we are breaking this pattern we end up in the same type of relationship. Often this is due to how we have learned to cope with past traumatic or unhealthy relationships. Together we will help you understand your past and heal from hurtful experiences, so you no longer feel stuck in this cycle. You will learn to better understand your relationship triggers and seek relationships where you feel loved, seen, and cared for.

I help clients see that change and growth are an inside job. When people feel unhappy they often look to other people, career, money and substances to make them feel better. This doesn't work long-term and only creates dependencies that harm them. For many, struggles are rooted in childhood experiences with less than ideal parenting and attachment patterns. Helping my clients to resolve and move past
family
of origin wounds, identify and eliminate destructive beliefs from their childhood and the behavior created from these beliefs, allows clients the ability to embrace their own lives and opens the door into joy & personal freedom.

As a Child and

and Registered Yoga and Mindfulness Instructor, I am committed to providing you and your
family
with a fun and integrative approach to counseling. We live in a fast-paced culture with countless to-do lists and often feel burdened by our schedules. Children are not much different and feel stress related to school, peer and
family
relationships and extra-curricular activities. However, children are not developmentally or emotionally prepared to manage this type of stress.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions, and Attachment and
Family
Systems approaches, allowing you to address your own needs, while also attuning to the needs of your child.
When you’re neck-deep in the struggle of parenting a child with special needs, taking the step to start your own therapy probably feels impossible. It might feel like just one more thing demanding your attention, one more appointment to keep straight, one more person telling you everything you’re doing wrong. My goal is to help you to feel more grounded and regulated so that all of the other things demanding your attention feel more manageable. I hope to support your parenting journey with a unique skillset that can address both your mental health needs, and bolster your skills around behavior management.

If you believe that knowing yourself in a deep way can open up potential space for repair and healing, I could be the right therapist for you. There is so much to grieve and love in this world of ours: our personal stories and
family
histories, the troubles of loved ones, our social and political pain, and the crisis facing our planet. All of this can feel exhausting or impossible to do alone. I work with patients who are creative, innovative, have unique perspectives on the world and are curious to open up to what is stuck in them in order to repair, heal and become more vital inside and within their relationships and the world.

Seeing a therapist is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and the people in your life. In therapy, we will focus on what YOU need: for example, working on anger, talking about painful experiences for the first time, navigating a difficult relationship, or what you're going through right now. And if you're not sure what you need, that's okay...we'll figure that out together. I use Internal
Family
Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices, and Existential Therapy, and I am most experienced working on anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger, and healthy communication in relationships.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
