Have you been carrying pain so long it feels normal? Do you look fine on the outside while keeping it together, showing up for others, while silently falling apart inside? Maybe anxiety has gotten too loud to ignore. Maybe depression has made getting through the day feel like an achievement. Maybe abuse, neglect, or trauma shaped the way you see yourself, and no matter how much time has passed, it keeps showing up in your mood, your relationships, and the way you talk to yourself. Or maybe you are still in the middle of it right now, trying to survive while also trying to heal. You are not broken.

At iAmClinic, our primary goal is to help the LGBTQ+ community and beyond establish internal solidarity, rooted identities, and long-term relational health. Each member of the iAmClinic team has experienced their own growth and healing, which fosters the excitement to offer the same life-changing process to those in our community. We created a safe place where people can share their stories, their pain, and their confusion, and what we’ve discovered most is that we created a place where people watch their lives change – a place where celebration happens and joy blossoms.

Sexual intimacy is an important component of human connection, and feeling stuck in recurring patterns of shame, conflict, or feeling misunderstood can have a significant impact on self esteem, relationships, and overall wellbeing. As a sex and relationship therapist with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I understand how difficult it can be to navigate these sensitive topics with yourself and with partners. I provide a non-judgmental environment where you are able to disrupt cycles of conflict, strengthen intimacy and communication skills, and deepen understanding of wants, needs, and desires.

Depression, anxiety, trauma, obsessions, etc live in the mind's dark corners and create cages that breed and maintain pain, stagnation, isolation, and an inability to think. If your suffering feels like a never-ending cycle and a lifelong struggle, you’ve come to the right place. There are no tricks or quick fixes -despite what some might promise- so, let's explore your history and mind's process, and discover your strengths within. Once you finally understand the patterns and process the internal conflicts that have been keeping you stuck, the cage can be dismantled.

Do you feel like you're fighting an internal battle no one else understands? Whether it's the pull of addiction, the chaos of racing thoughts, or the weight of intense emotions, I believe healing begins when you feel truly seen. My core belief is simple: every person deserves a judgment-free space to process their life and find their unique path forward. As a neurodivergent therapist, I meet you exactly where you are, helping you quiet the inner "rats"—those impulsive, emotional thoughts—and regain a sense of calm and control. Your unique brain isn't a problem; it's just wired differently.

Common challenges we all face include issues with self-esteem, processing negative or strong emotions, work-life balance, adjusting to change, developing meaningful relationships, and discovering our purpose. In addition, stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and interpersonal conflict can obstruct our ability to experience life to its fullest potential.

Hi, I’m Dr. Ava Schumacher. As a health psychologist, I help adults navigate the complex relationship between physical health and emotional wellbeing. When you’re living with chronic pain or illness, struggling to sleep, or feeling stretched thin by stress and life changes, nearly every part of your life can be affected. Pain and other symptoms are stressful and disrupt sleep, which can lead to more flare-ups and even more stress. Over time, many people get stuck in these cycles, worried, frustrated, and discouraged. I use evidence-based approaches to help you gently interrupt these cycles to feel better in mind and body.

Everyone deserves to feel heard and validated, without fear of judgment. Using cognitive-behavioral, emotions-focused, and family systems therapies, I aim to meet you where you are for support. I utilize a family-systems and cognitive-behavioral lens to assist my clients in understanding the "why" of who they are. We will then work collaboratively to change what my clients wish to change in their lives, and accept what is necessary. I value taking a personalized approach with each of my clients, as I feel our individual uniqueness is essential to the core of ourselves.

Are you ready to dig deep so that you can make movement towards healing? Are you processing through unimaginable grief? I can help. I know that there are times in life where we feel lost, stuck, and overwhelmed by the complexity of emotions that encompass the human experience. Therapy can help you look at these feelings and learn to work with them, instead of resisting or avoiding them and arrive at a place of healing and deeper authenticity. If you are struggling with depression and anxiety or if you feel "off" and are ready to be yourself again, I'd love to connect with you to see how we get there together.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
