I know sometimes it feels like no one can help you. That you are too much, too dark, and too broken to be helped. Sometimes trauma can manifest by cutting, eating disorders, depression, chaos, and a real struggle to maintain friendships. It can be hard to even picture what a stable and consistent life would look like, but it's still something you want. Chaotic feelings feel like they take over you and you struggle to make it through each day. You want to live but still feel suicidal. This is all normal for someone with trauma, someone who has been through
abuse
, someone who has experienced broken relationships and even toxic ones.

I have experience working with adolescent and adult survivors of relationship
abuse
and family
violence
. Trauma can get us stuck in harmful beliefs and habits that – while useful for survival – may not serve us in healthy relationships and a safe environment. I recognize that creating a safe, non-judgmental space to identify and process these complexities is essential for healing; and I believe much of this healing can take place as we learn to practice self-compassion and courage.

I have specialized knowledge in Couples, Teens, Families, HSP, HSS, Narcissistic
Abuse
, Cults, Mental/Emotional Control Devices, Trauma and
Domestic
Violence
.
Relationships are a skill that require practice. Most of us have been exposed to, or surrounded by, poor models of relating. Whether you've observed or been involved in relationships characterized by avoidance, passive-aggression, people-pleasing, dishonesty, or
abuse
...there is hope. Can you be present with an open mind, spirit of curiosity, and a willingness to try new things? New patterns can be learned, and these patterns can replace the ones that cause disconnection and misunderstanding. Healing isn't always comfortable, but that's why they call it "growing pains" :)

I use a combination of EMDR and IFS, Internal Family Systems, guided meditation and relaxation techniques to help clients explore their feelings and needs so they can find the happiness they desire. Both EMDR and IFS are evidence-based, transformative therapies for treating trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance
abuse
. Rooted in neuroscience, these approaches allow clients to access inner resources and self-compassion for healing emotional wounding at its core. I teach clients a new way to identify with their "wise, healthy self", separating the person from the symptom, so they can heal.

victims, family therapy, co-parenting therapy, and working with LGBTQIA populations.
I exclusively offer weekend appointments in order to make therapy more accessible to busy professionals and families. You might find you are reliving the same patterns and cycles over and over again in your family, your relationships, your career, or your behaviors. Likely this has caused worry, hurt, anger, or feelings of sadness. Through exploring these patterns or themes, we will work together to gain insight and understand their cause. New skills and strategies will be gained as well, so that you, or your family, can move forward towards happiness.

trauma; anxiety & depression; couple relationships; African-American/multicultural issues; personal development; stress & anger management; work-related issues & mediation.
I view psychotherapy as a process of exploration and affirmation of one's life path, including the experiences and wisdom gained along this journey. This is just the beginning point for the psychotherapeutic process of healing and identifying one's pathway to continue the journey of personal growth, transformation and achieving balance (mind, body & Spirit).
I see my role as a therapist as that of a witness and source of support and knowledge, joining with you to help facilitate the individual process of developing a deeper sense of self-awareness, achieving personal growth and transformation: to create the life you want.

I work with clients who are struggling with substance
abuse
, addiction, anxiety, depression, anger, identity, and transition.
Seeking counseling can be a difficult first step. It's hard for us to acknowledge our pain, and often we feel guilty about it. Feelings aren't good or bad, they just are--the consequences of those feelings are what we can influence. Counseling is important because it can provide a safe place to speak the truth about what we are going through. Our truth is powerful and can be a motivator for making changes to how we feel and what we do. Counseling can help us identify our values, goals, & beliefs and to harness them to help us heal.

I strongly believe in the human capacity for resilience, healing, and transformation and I am passionate about tailoring therapy to fit the individual and their strengths. Most of all though I genuinely care and invest myself in the people I serve, I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of conditions such as panic disorder, sexual/physical
abuse
, anxiety/depression, disturbing memories, trauma, stress reduction, and addiction. I am however particularly passionate in providing therapy to the LGBTQ+ community, a population in which individuals are statistically more likely to experience a mental health condition.

Whether you find yourself in life transition, impacted by personal or communal
violence
or other traumatic events, or otherwise feel frozen or stuck, therapy may support you in building awareness and skills to move through what you're facing. You may experience doubt in aspects of yourself you're unfamiliar with, fear of known or unknown stress-inducing circumstances, or the physical and emotional impacts of
violence
or pain you've seen or experienced. In each case, finding space where you can name what is painful to name is often the first step in that movement through it.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
