I have experience working with children, teens, and adults with complex trauma. I have had the privilege of learning from clinicians in recovery as well as clients facing addiction, children and teens in foster care, survivors of intimate
partner
violence and human trafficking. My background in crisis intervention has illuminated the interconnectedness and intersectionality of multiple traumas. And I understand that for most people, the therapeutic environment is a place where we need to experience acceptance for many interwoven losses, fears, and challenges.

Beginning a therapeutic
relationship
can be an intimidating process.
I work with clients looking for overall growth and healing in their lives. Most clients do experience symptoms of imbalance in their everyday lives. This may surface in the form of marital discord, financial issues, anxiety, and depression. I believe these symptoms represent something deeper wanting to be felt, witnessed, acknowledged and understood. I am someone that provides a safe, warm time to explore the more tender content of our lives. I don't believe in having all the answers but rather providing the time to mindfully and humbly move through whatever is being brought forth.

I have over 25 years of experience working with individuals, children, adolescents, and
couples
from all walks of life.
My core value is compassion, which means that when we are hurt we must find ways to stay in the moment, to not leave ourselves. Compassion for ourselves leads to strength and confidence that is needed to heal. I model comedic empathy for our shared human condition and the sometimes too serious processes in our lives . I bring a wealth of information and expertise to help identify and successfully address the problems that come with divorce, relationships, grief and loss, marital infidelity, parenting, co-parenting, blended families, communication with your
partner
, and generally feeling overwhelmed and hopeless.

Together, we will build a trustworthy therapeutic
relationship
where you can feel safe bringing all of the parts of yourself, combining self-compassion and self-improvement to create change.
I understand the challenges of living outside of the cultural norm - we have to create our own maps from scratch to navigate challenging questions about identity and relationships. Trying to sort through these issues alone is overwhelming! I can help. Together, we will identify what is important to you, and explore ways of being that support healing and living authentically. As a nonbinary, queer, polyamory-positive, kink-aware, trauma-informed professional, I can offer a unique perspective for those of us who exist outside of traditional roles.

Reyka's experience involves complex trauma, attachment &
relationship
issues, anxiety & other mood disorders, adoption-related trauma, & rebuilding skills related to relaxation and stress management.
Dr. Jessica Reyka, Psy.D., the founder and owner of Grass Roots Healing, LLC, is a firm believer that in order to reconnect and heal, we must first go back to the "root" of the problem or concern, which often stems far back into one's life, and then work towards healing from an inward-out approach. "The stronger our roots are, the more beautiful the leaves that come from the tree"; similar to the process of therapy where we rebuild the foundation from which you view the world and create a life/beliefs/behaviors that are more in alignment with your true values and authentic self.

I have over 10 years of experience and provide an authentic therapeutic
relationship
along with evidence based treatments to help you achieve your recovery goals.
Welcome and congratulations on making this step. I work with folks who find themselves stuck in unserving patterns of self talk, relationships or habits. Maybe you have an idea of what you want, but emotional blocks or low motivation is getting in the way of making it happen. Healing comes in many forms, often including shedding layers that no longer serve us and grieving past versions of our life so we can move forward in more free, empowered ways. When we better understand our true core values and how our bodies respond to challenges, we can more confidently move forward with sound, authentic direction.

I work with you to define and achieve the life YOU want, whether that is managing symptoms, solving a problem, or simply living a more fulfilling life and being your authentic self. I believe a good therapist, like a good friend, doesn’t just tell you what you want to hear. I challenge my clients to see new perspectives, notice their blind spots, and find new insights. My theoretical orientation draws primarily from humanism and existentialism. I draw techniques from MI, CBT, and DBT. I would describe my style as cognitive-based and intellectual, with no “BS” and a healthy dose of humor!

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
