My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for those who have been marginalized because of their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bisexual , lesbian, gay, pansexual, asexual, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, everything, and/or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can explore the different parts of yourself without judgment. As a queer person who has sought out my own therapy, I know how difficult it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapeutic goals, know that every part of you will be affirmed in our work.

Often it can be difficult to deal with painful life circumstances on your own. Therapy with an experienced professional can help you address these difficult issues in a supportive yet challenging environment. I understand that there is no one approach to deal with life's tough issues. I am committed to working collaboratively with my clients to meet their goals and tailoring therapy to their specific needs and experiences. Additionally, I am deeply committed to providing culturally competent treatment to every client I work with. I believe this is crucial for any type of psychotherapy to be effective and helpful.

Heterosexual, gay, lesbian, queer, bisexual , transgender, monogamous, non-monogamous, and polyamorous individuals and partners can benefit from relationship support, emotional literacy, healing trauma, and exploring gender in their lives.
There is a way through this. We will find it together. I believe in the power of authentic expression and deep relationships. I incorporate contemplative, somatic, and social justice approaches in my counseling. I work with adults and couples focusing on identity, gender, and relationships. I provide a collaborative approach utilizing mind-body and present moment awareness to support you in connecting with your intrinsic health and inherent wisdom. As meditator, dancer, gardener, and herbalist I value time to reflect, slow down, be with nature, and developing our capacity to move from the heart with courage and gentleness.

How do we find inner peace when our outer presentation is wrong? Where is self-acceptance when the world around you is unaccepting? Your internal struggles are real, and you are not alone. Wholeness begins with healing. They say time heals all wounds, but some wounds are so deep it feels as though they may never heal. Asking for help takes strength. If you’re experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma from sexual assault or abuse, and/or sex and relationship issues, let’s chat. Please reach out via email if possible

Hi, my name is Jess (he/him/his). I am an LGBTQIA+ Specialized Therapist in Denver. I understand how hard it is to find a therapist who truly understands the unique mental health needs of LGBTQIA+ folks. Many practices will post a rainbow flag on their website and therapists state they are an ‘Ally’ but have not attained the level of expertise to meet the unique mental health needs of LGBTQIA+ clients. Queer mental health is my passion. I have dedicated my life to the field and serving our community through my therapy practice, writing/research, and community outreach projects.

With 10 years of clinical experience I bring my energetic and caring personality into my work while providing objective feedback in a non-pathologizing therapeutic space. I see counseling as a way to gain support while you process life concerns in the present, reprocess life-altering/significant life events from the past, and worries of the future. If you feel comfortable partnering with a someone who strives to avoid shaming, judging, and guilting others, we'll be a good match. Whether you're gay, bi, queer, questioning, or straight, you are welcomed and accepted in my office.

The good news is that you are thinking about making a change. It is ok if you are not sure. I help clients sort through their reasons for making a change and for staying the same. We work together to uncover what is holding you back. In this process there are often images, myths or dreams that show up and that help guide change process. I encourage and support clients to explore the hidden gifts found in the shadow places in their lives and help them shed light on the purpose of old patterns before replacing them with something new and more effective.

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
