I am trained in EMDR therapy which can be a great technique when other types of therapy aren't helping, and I specialize in anger management and learning how to use healthy assertive communication.
Do you want to feel more confident and assertive? Do you struggle with self esteem or feeling good enough? I specialize in helping adults develop healthy self confidence, and live with more self esteem in life. Sometimes people might describe you as a "really nice person" or you might be feeling like a people pleaser. As a result it's common to struggle with anxiety, depression, anger , or relationships. Together we can explore some of the experiences in your life that are holding you back and learn new skills that will help you feel good about who you are, express your emotions in healthy ways, and find meaningful relationships.

Seeing a therapist is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and the people in your life. In therapy, we will focus on what YOU need: for example, working on anger , talking about painful experiences for the first time, navigating a difficult relationship, or what you're going through right now. And if you're not sure what you need, that's okay...we'll figure that out together. I use Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness practices, and Existential Therapy, and I am most experienced working on anxiety, depression, PTSD, anger , and healthy communication in relationships.

Let’s be real. These are dark times, and uncertainty abounds. Old wounds may be coming to the surface, and the thought of facing them may feel downright terrifying……It IS terrifying. I believe that these moments are opportunities for us to learn, accept, and grow in our capacity to be Compassionate with ourselves, and with one another. This is how Transformational Healing occurs. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationships with substances, or existential dread (perhaps all the above), YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

I specialize in working with adult clients who deal with attachment issues, depression, trauma, anger , anxiety, grief/loss, and relationship issues.
Starting an inner journey on a path to self-healing and understanding can seem like a daunting task. It can be confusing, often goes against logic, and opens us up to the very things that caused us to retreat from a full life in the first place. I understand the trepidation that comes from starting on such a journey and the various obstacles that arise during this exploration. This journey does not have to be taken alone.

Sometimes we just need an objective, non-judgmental and unbiased person to HEAR us. So often we have been taught or have developed patterns of behaviors for survival and adaptation that as we mature we find are no longer serving the person we are aspiring to become. Whether you find yourself struggling with anger management , anxiety, boundaries, depression, life transitions, relationships (family and intimate), and personal goal attainment, I can help you identify and break the patterns that are preventing you from becoming your ideal self.

We are shaped by the experiences of life. We are influenced by our surroundings and relationships to develop a concept of what is normal and what is safe. We all experience the hard emotions of hurt, loss, grief, pain, suffering, fear, and anger . Everyone is their own unique individual and has their own journey and story to tell. Do you feel like you are fighting with others a lot? Do you feel susceptible to angry outbursts? Were you exposed to a trauma that still impacts you today?

I specialize in working with individuals and couples, particularly helping people whose history has led them undermine their own happiness through their anger and anxiety.
Counseling is a powerful tool to explore yourself, to reflect, grow, learn, and take risks in a safe, facilitated and confidential space. Many of us have struggled with our shadows. I have dedicated my career of more than twenty years to helping people find healing and create hope and freedom in their struggles with those shadows. In sessions we address and recast old narratives related to abuse and trauma, which are often multigenerational.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
