It is my goal as a therapist to help bring you back to a felt sense of connection with your body. I specialize in working with teen and adult clients who are going through transitional phases, experiencing relationship issues, or are in need of processing some heavy life events. Transitions are hard, whether they are expected or not. From child to adolescent / teen , high school to college, and from college to “adulthood.” Many transitions brings about changes in mood and feelings, as well as changes in the family dynamic. Whether you are a parent struggling to communicate better with your child/ teen , an older child/ teen trying to navigate your burgeoning independence, or an emerging adult who is confused and overwhelmed by life, my hope is to provide a space to gain clarity, peace, and a sense of relief.

If you or your child/ teen struggles with challenges related to Autism, ADHD, or intellectual or learning disabilities I would love to support you. Neurodiverse children often have challenges with socialization, communication, and specific interests. Through child-led play and cognitive behavioral support I work with children to strengthen skills and regulate emotions. If your child is older or in adolescence there may be additional challenges with Neurodiversity such as anxiety or depression. I utilize CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and mindfulness based therapy to support clients and help them reach their goals.

I specialize in child/ adolescent mood and behavior disorders, child/adult trauma, parenting issues, family therapy and child/adult life cycle issues (divorce, grief/loss, life transitions).
I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to reach your goal(s). Together we will identify the problem and figure out a solution. I work with both long-term and short-term issues. Sometimes skills and practice are needed to change the current way of doing things, and other times information or deeper self-exploration.

I specialize in couples therapy, adult, and adolescent individual therapy.
Now more than ever things are piling up! Life can be overwhelming and then in comes a pandemic, what!?! These times have really put a strain on us as individuals, our relationships, our families, our jobs/school and tested us in every way in between. We can all use therapy for support during life transitions, navigating relationships, career, and to increase our awareness so we are really LIVING and not just hanging on by a thread! It's our culture to be fiercely independent and if we have learned anything in all of this, it's that we need human connection and there is no replacement.

I have extensive training and experience helping clients who are dealing with relationship/intimacy issues; addictions; depression and anxiety; grief and loss; communication difficulties; trauma and PTSD; child/ adolescent issues and divorce.
With 25 years in clinical practice, I am a firm believer in the effectiveness of psychotherapy to improve self confidence and self esteem, to develop more fulfilling relationships and to set one's life course in a positive direction for the future. I try to not only help my clients find relief from bothersome symptoms but also to help get to the root of the problem that has brought them into therapy. In this way the therapy has a deeper and longer-lasting effect as clients learn how to free themselves from problematic patterns from the past and live more fully in the present.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
