I hold two licenses; a LPC (Licensure Professional Counselor) and a LAC (Licensed Addiction Counselor).
Are feelings of worry, dread, panic, and unwanted intrusive thoughts making living an enjoyable life more difficult? Change and transformation are difficult; it takes courage, work, and patience to heal- but there is hope! I specialize in Obsession Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety, Panic, and assisting clients with processing and rewiring unhelpful habits. Unwanted intrusive thoughts (Obsessions) can be scary at times. Compulsions and avoidance behaviors can also have a devastating effect both emotionally, interpersonally, and physically,

My experience working with clients has included those struggling with depression and anxiety as it pertains to relationship concerns, grief and loss, and those in a relationship with someone struggling with addiction.
I have had the opportunity to work with people struggling with trauma, substance use, relationship/marital issues, general anxiety and depression, grief and loss. I am trained in CBT-SUD, EFT for couples, and motivational interviewing. While I have vast experience working with military veterans and family members, I do not have EBPs for PTSD.

I've been helping individuals and couples for over 30 years to improve relationships, deal with challenges, heal from trauma and abuse, eliminate self-destructive behaviors, overcome codependency and addiction, and to feel more secure.
I help clients see that change and growth are an inside job. When people feel unhappy they often look to other people, career, money and substances to make them feel better. This doesn't work long-term and only creates dependencies that harm them. For many, struggles are rooted in childhood experiences with less than ideal parenting and attachment patterns. Helping my clients to resolve and move past family of origin wounds, identify and eliminate destructive beliefs from their childhood and the behavior created from these beliefs, allows clients the ability to embrace their own lives and opens the door into joy & personal freedom.

I have a wealth of expertise working with mental health disorders, struggles with substance abuse, failure to launch, difficulties with motivation, and challenges navigating family dynamics.
As a trauma-informed therapist, I believe that many of our challenges are rooted in trauma and childhood attachment. Growth can happen when we are able to develop internal validation and develop a positive self-concept. I believe much of our work happens between therapy sessions, and that evolving treatment plans are effective in obtaining long-term goals.

I have have a lot of experience with anxiety, depression and OCD, as well as helping people with big life changes, self esteem, and relationship issues. Everybody is different, so in working together I will listen to you and what you need from me to help you the best. A big reason I decided to become a therapist due to the belief that if people are more connected and insightful about themselves—and how they impact the world—the world itself will become a better place.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
