Together we will explore gentle yet effective boundary setting,
family
-of-origin dynamics, and work on self-empowerment.
Hello! Do you love someone struggling with an addiction? Have you tried everything to help but nothing seems to be working? Clients come to me because their spouse, significant other, child, parent, or friend is dealing with an addiction and they need help. My clients find that their lives have become chaotic, scary, and unpredictable and they live in a state of fear wondering "when is the next shoe going to drop?" They feel powerless, constantly on-edge, and want to know how they can help their loved one. Maybe at some point you realize that your mental health has begun to suffer as well and you could use some personalized support.

In my practice we am able to help you work on trauma, addiction, change of life events to include but not limited to starting or dissolving a
family
, and operating in a
family
system where conflict is the primary form if interaction.
My name is Agnieszka Baklazec and I along with three other therapists in my practice are here for you. We believe that some of life events are traumatic enough and difficult enough that we lose sight of who we truly are as people. We believe therapy can help us get to that beautiful state when, even the imperfections, make up for a beautiful human being each of us is. We also believe that therapy should be affordable and accessible, therefore, we have the ability to offer sliding scare at my practice. This option is usually ideal for someone who does not have insurance or chooses not to utilize it.

I have become very interested in the brain's functioning powers and how people can learn to re-wire neural networks, using strategies that can calm, relax, heighten a sense of personal control, diminish the power of old patterns, and strengthen healthy neural pathways. Research now shows that talking about what is causing tension, stress, or discomfort for you is good for your brain. It is good to find a therapist, a trusted friend or clergy worker to confide in and improve your life. I work with children of all ages, adult individuals, and couples and families who are having difficulties.

" Some of the main modalities I use to guide clients towards greater self-awareness and those "I got it" moments are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Internal
Family
Systems (IFS), and attachment theory.
The question, "why now?" is one of the most simplistic, yet deeply profound questions to ask when deciding to enter therapy. Discovering your "why" is one of the first steps of moving towards what therapy is ultimately about: self-awareness. As a therapist, I don't claim to have all the answers or a magic cure. In fact, I think the most lasting changes in therapy occur as clients come to a deeper self-awareness of their own lives. I view my role as a therapist as being able to partner with clients and walk alongside them as they journey towards greater self-awareness.

The power for healing is in the present moment! I also want to learn about your history, which events in your life led you to this moment, important people in your life, what do you value, and where are you stuck.

I have a unique understanding of a multitude of recovery programs including the 12 step process. I have strived to learn how best to integrate these concepts which have helped so many with psychotherapy and marriage and
family therapy
. I have spent the last seven years working with individuals and families suffering from substance abuse, behavioral health, anger, and severe mental health issues. By enlisting and encouraging the partners, parents and siblings into the therapeutic process, the weave of all
family
members are able to find their voice and begin to work on healthy
family
dynamics.

I use a combination of EMDR and IFS, Internal
Family
Systems, guided meditation and relaxation techniques to help clients explore their feelings and needs so they can find the happiness they desire. Both EMDR and IFS are evidence-based, transformative therapies for treating trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. Rooted in neuroscience, these approaches allow clients to access inner resources and self-compassion for healing emotional wounding at its core. I teach clients a new way to identify with their "wise, healthy self", separating the person from the symptom, so they can heal.

What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
