We are shaped by the experiences of life. We are influenced by our surroundings and relationships to develop a concept of what is normal and what is safe. We all experience the hard emotions of hurt, loss, grief, pain, suffering, fear, and
anger
. Everyone is their own unique individual and has their own journey and story to tell. Do you feel like you are fighting with others a lot? Do you feel susceptible to angry outbursts? Were you exposed to a trauma that still impacts you today?

By adulthood, we operate on beliefs based on what we learned in childhood from out parents, siblings, friends, teachers. Our way of interacting with others may have worked then, but now don't seem to be effective, or working against us. This can lead to depression, anxiety,
anger
, frustration and loss of vitality. Address the patterns and beliefs that now lead to conflict with others or yourself, or just don't work. Together, we can identify what's not working and determine your direction for change. My focus is on you, your success, your health and living a richer life.

More and more people are having trouble knowing who they are or where they belong in life. What we were taught growing up or what we learn from society doesn't make sense or apply any longer. Because of this, we have difficulties from depression to questioning our own belief system. It may appear as confusion, anxiety,
anger
, or anything that disrupts our day-to-day life. When we feel this way it is a hurt or loss that is almost impossible to describe. My type of counseling presents people with an opportunity to understand why and how they think and feel the way they do and to go deeper than they could have imagined possible.

Let’s talk about what matters to you. Change happens and we ask ourselves “ Who am I Now?” “What is Meaningful to Me?” “What causes me pain and sadness?” “What makes me Laugh?” “Is loneliness a recurring theme?” “Why am I so angry?” Difficulties connecting with people and lack of assertiveness can cause resentment,
anger
, loneliness, and loss of meaning. We grow in our relationships with ourselves and each other. Healthy relationships make us feel alive. The ability to positively assert ourselves creates increased self esteem and authentic relationships.

Are you struggling with anxiety, depression/grief, or frustration/
anger
? I am optimistic we can work together to reduce these symptoms, so that you can move forward with renewed confidence and hope. Changes of life issues: death of a loved-one; marriage/divorce; loss of good health; financial concerns; or problems with relationships, often precipitate these symptoms in many people. Yet, these painful situations also present wonderful opportunities for reflection, personal growth, and resolution.

My work is focused on individuals who have concerns including anxiety, depression,
anger
, ADHD, substance abuse, loss, and trauma.
You know choices have consequences, and you want to make effective, productive choices that benefit you and the people in your life. You want to move toward your goals, and you try really hard to make forward progress. So it's confusing when your choices seem to move you further from what you want - further from satisfying relationships, meaningful work, completed projects, and a healthy balance between work and play. It can be difficult to determine which actions to take when life moves so fast and you feel heavy with the weight of trying to meet expectations. You're not alone in feeling this way.

anger
, grief, and relationship problems.
I want you to not just feel better, but to GET better...and in a way that makes sense, addresses what is important to you, and is effective and empowering. Good therapy is not a temporary Band-Aid, but will help you develop knowledge and skills that last a lifetime. Real change means becoming better at understanding yourself and others, more skilled in managing and expressing your emotions, and more effective in communicating in your relationships. We will clarify your main concerns and goals, identify the barriers to change, and then use your strengths and new tools to find solutions that fit your personality and lifestyle.

(Scheduling in-person and Zoom now) Sometimes we experience disturbing levels of anxiety, depression,
anger
, or loss. Sometimes we feel disconnected or not able to get a handle on things. In those times emotions can be overwhelming or confusing, and our usual ways of dealing with life don't seem to work anymore. Therapy offers a way to increase awareness of who we are, measure our limits, and expand our personal and interpersonal abilities to make significant changes. I believe we have within us the potential for a healthy and creative life. In the therapy process, we have an opportunity to discover and unleash that potential.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
