Seeking care can be a daunting experience, from trusting your instincts around whether it feels like the right match, to believing in your own capacity to grow and heal. I see my role as providing a reliable and consistent space where my patients can grow freer to think about their lives in ways that may have previously felt out of reach. A foundational goal of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy is the cultivation of curiosity into how your mind works, how you relate to your own emotions, and how patterns in your life are obstructing your ability to work, love, play, and make meaning.

Many psychological problems are tied to relationship struggles - sex and money are two of the biggest struggles implicated in these cases either as cause, consequence, or something in between. These struggles are emotionally moving manifestations of the human need for connection and the deep pain felt when this connection is damaged or severed. I help individuals and couples seek relationship-deepening events, become more fluent in the language of others, and understand that satisfying relationships are contingent on the ability to relate to the people you value in your life.

Let’s be real. These are dark times, and uncertainty abounds. Old wounds may be coming to the surface, and the thought of facing them may feel downright terrifying……It IS terrifying. I believe that these moments are opportunities for us to learn, accept, and grow in our capacity to be Compassionate with ourselves, and with one another. This is how Transformational Healing occurs. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationships with substances, or existential dread (perhaps all the above), You Are Not Alone.

Many people find their way to me when anxiety, depression, or PTSD/complex trauma feels like it's taken over their daily life. You might feel like your mind has become an unpredictable force working against you — with different parts pulling you in conflicting directions, leading you to act against your values, or leaving you paralyzed when you most want to move forward. As the saying goes, "the mind is an excellent servant but a terrible master." What draws most of my clients is the deep desire to reclaim their sense of self and become the compassionate leader of their own inner world again.

In eight years of psychotherapy work with children, adolescents, college students, adults, and families, I have found that unhealthy levels of stress can worsen problems related to self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and beyond. These issues often lead to additional problems at home, school, or work and ultimately affect relationships with friends and family. Struggling with difficult life transitions may have a significant and lasting impact on the mind. It can be hard to navigate these situations or to know where to turn.

It was here that I fell in love with diversity, culture, and sport. This passion took me on adventures around the world to many countries where I continued to grow outside of my comfort zones. Eventually the traveling brought me to CO where I completed my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Since then I have enjoyed adding diversity to my clinical skills by working in various outpatient and inpatient counseling settings. I bring a passion for and deep empathy of my clients diverse mental, physical and spiritual character.

The anxieties and worries that constantly invade our mind can be incredibly difficult to live with. We often respond to this by either trying to be superficially positive and “pushing through” or we become regularly overwhelmed by waves of anxiety, panic and chronic stress. If you’ve gotten to a point where the frustration and anguish of anxiety, disruption of sleep and ineffective ways of dealing with those things have reached a crisis point, let’s work together on coming up with new, more effective responses that can tangibly change and improve your life in an ongoing and ultimately fulfilling way.

If you're dealing with a significant change in life, whether having a loved one pass, starting a new job, or just adjusting to a new city, dealing with change is my specialty. Having completed coursework for a PhD in Depth Psychology and currently completing a Doctor of Education, I am skilled at working with various issues that I am happy to discuss with you. What sets me apart from others isn't so much the types of issues I work with, but how we work with one another.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
