Life can be a lot to handle sometimes. In the blink of an eye, things can happen that irrevocably change our lives. Events like a cancer diagnosis, the death of a loved one, job loss, a breakup, sexual assault, or even a car accident may leave you with trauma, anxiety, depression , and grief that degrades your health and quality of life. Often, it is many accumulating events that overwhelm us with chronic stress and push us past our current ability to cope. If you are in that place where hope, happiness, and the life you would like to live seems impossible to reach, I can help you learn the skills needed to cope and build resiliency.

Specialty issues: grief and loss, life transitions, rebuilding life after divorce or separation, couples issues, non-drug approaches to managing anxiety and depression , mind-body-spirit wellness.
I work collaboratively with people to help them create the lives they want -- in their relationships, families, recreation and work. This process of exploration and discovery is inspiring and taps into hopes, dreams and imagination through story and re-connecting and remembering memories and experiences of connection and joy in their lives. Clients who benefit most from working with me are usually bright, creative and interested in freeing themselves from the constraints of family, social and cultural expectations that have become internalized and held as truths. This is a way of finding your way home ... to where your heart is.

I have experience as a bilingual Spanish speaking counselor working with adults and youth ages 12 and older in managing depression , anxiety, trauma, disordered eating, and periods of transition. My philosophy is that mental health disorders are intensified when there is an imbalance between the mind, body, and spirit. Therefore, I actively engage clients using their strengths, values, and experiences to create individualized prescriptions for living that reinforce one’s ability to maintain harmony in the face of adversity. This includes creating a welcoming environment for clients of all backgrounds.

Do you feel a loss of identity, purpose, sense of self, or interest in life? Are you dissatisfied with your goals, your job, or your relationships? Do you struggle with sadness, anxiety, disturbing thoughts, hallucinations, or self destructive behavior? Have you experienced a trauma that has shattered your sense of the world? Just like physical pain indicates that something may be wrong with our bodies, psychological problems tell us that we are suffering on a deep, emotional level. Anxiety, depression , relationship problems, and other symptoms are signs that we are experiencing psychological pain for an underlying reason.

Life is hard. We all suffer. People today experience more stress, emptiness, anxiety, self-judgment, and depression than ever. Do you feel overwhelmed by your emotional experience? Maybe you have found ways to numb painful feelings or memories temporarily, only to have them resurface again? Or perhaps you struggle to express yourself effectively in your relationships, and end up shutting down or lashing out. Cultivating a healthy relationship to our emotions opens space for greater connection, confidence, and compassion. A healthy experience of our inner world also opens the way to tapping into the fullest expression of ourselves.

I work with adults struggling with depression , anxiety, self-esteem/confidence, trauma and relationship issues.
We are all many different things. We have many different feelings. We have many different issues. And we address them (or not) in different ways. We are a handful, and sometimes we need someone else to help figure things out. Human beings have a great capacity for growth and change, and in working together we can find the best version of yourself to be more authentic, happy, peaceful and inspired. My approach is simple: get personal. With an eclectic academic and professional background, I am committed to helping people though a method specific to their needs.

As a contemplative based psychotherapist, I offer a range of modalities to support through depression , anxiety, and trauma.
Sometimes daily challenges grow to feel like they are actively holding you back. These once manageable internal blocks and environmental influences can be hard to name and even harder to break through. But there is also something calling you to reconnect and take strong steps towards truly living. The root of my work is to help you Define Your Duende -- the inherent fire that sparks your own authentic expression and inspired experience. Through talk therapy and varying modalities, we can collaboratively build a dynamic therapeutic approach that utilizes your strengths and engages your specific struggles.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
