I specialize in working with the underlying grief , trauma, and context that obscure the natural self.
Are you searching for an approach to grow, change, and heal but feel like you don't 'fit the boxes' of the traditional approach to mental health treatment? Do you want to get beyond symptoms and coping and craft a life that works and is worth living? My clients are courageous adults who make the decision to turn toward themselves and their own suffering. They are committed to growing in awareness and want to walk through the world consciously. They are interested in the ‘inner work’ of seeing themselves, their lives, and reality around them clearly. They recognize that efforts to numb, avoid, or distract from their pain don't work.

Something may not feel quite right. Be it an experience of sadness or grief , or that your relationship with food, your work, or others is consuming your time and energy. However you arrive, our first priority will be managing this pain and finding stability to make life more bearable. By approaching ourselves with deep curiosity we can explore and understand the patterns, beliefs, and experiences we have learned to adapt and survive. Ultimately we are building the ability to interpret the world from a new vantage. My goal is that through this work you can find yourself in a space of increased peace, capacity, and potential.

I prefer swimming in the deep waters: exploring the bigger questions around the meaning of life and death , how to find and maintain fulfilling relationships, how to thrive in our precious, finite time here.
I walk alongside you as you explore your inner world. We will discover why you do what you do, and whether you want to continue doing it. Together, we learn how you impact others and yourself. I ask questions that elucidate your real motivations. I help you understand what you actually want so that you can get it. You're ready to go deeper, but you're not sure how to go about it. If you want to cultivate more freedom in your life, and better understand yourself and your relationships, you've come to the right place.

As life progresses, we each encounter difficulties that create ripples in our lives. I aim to create a collaborative space in which to discuss the ways in which clients can experience change and feel empowered. Creating a non-judgemental space is crucial to me within the therapeutic environment, so that exploration of self can occur. I have had extensive clinical experience in identity formation, depression, coping, grief , comorbid mental health diagnoses, and anxiety. I enjoy developing a strong alliance with clients in order to facilitate a sense of growth.

Therapy can be a place to talk about our human struggles and experiences. Purpose and identity, grief and loss , and the nature of our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world are a few areas of human living that might be explored in sessions. Therapy can also be helpful in processing and coping with stressful or traumatic life situations. Developmental and acute trauma, environmental stress, and sociopolitical violence and oppression are some of the external forces that can have a deep impact on wellbeing. Longstanding conditions and adjustment to life changes are also addressed in treatment.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
