My practice is limited to assessment and evaluation, primarily with clients involved in the legal system for some reason. Adolescent age youth and adults are the specialty age groups, in part because adolescents and young adults tend to be involved with the legal system in criminal matters more frequently. My background includes clinical work with adolescents in the Denver Metro area and throughout Colorado. It also includes administrative and clinical work with forensically involved adults. Parents facing termination of parental rights and parents disputing custody structure make up the remainder of my focus and experience.

I specialize in couples therapy, adult, and adolescent individual therapy.
Now more than ever things are piling up! Life can be overwhelming and then in comes a pandemic, what!?! These times have really put a strain on us as individuals, our relationships, our families, our jobs/school and tested us in every way in between. We can all use therapy for support during life transitions, navigating relationships, career, and to increase our awareness so we are really LIVING and not just hanging on by a thread! It's our culture to be fiercely independent and if we have learned anything in all of this, it's that we need human connection and there is no replacement.

Do you live with that constant, seemingly hopeless battle against an inner monster or dark shadows of the past? It’s so hard to get out of bed each morning because it feels like nothing will get better. Those overwhelming, and sometimes scary, thoughts or memories that run through your head leave you feeling sad, worried, or lost. They cause difficulty in your closest relationships because it feels like no one understands what you're going through. Sometimes these experiences may come up and you find tears in your eyes, your heart starts to pound, or your body begins to shake.

Sometimes being who you are is stressful. Queer folks have a lot weighing on them these days. It can be difficult to find the firm ground you need. So here you are, taking the first step. Whether it’s you or your teen , our work together will focus on healing, and finding joy among the chaos. Choosing to change and no longer choosing to stay the same is such an important step. Maybe you are uncertain of where to go next. I hear that. Therapy offers a space for you to talk about how and where you want your life to go.

Throughout my time as a professional, I have grown to understand the vitalness surrounding connecting childhood learnings and patterns to problems currently arising within the client’s world. I believe we can't change our current problems if we don't know what is driving the behavior or thought process to begin with. Starting at the source and establishing patterns and connections is vital in healing, growing, and creating new behavior and thinking. I often utilize DBT, CBT, attachment theory, and family systems models within the therapy space. Let's talk about your childhood!

I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, and their families. I’m here to empower you in increasing self-awareness, improving your ability to truly feel and release emotions, and learning how to attune to both yourself and others. I meet each person with an open and nonjudgmental presence while blending together different modalities including emotionally focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and the brain-body relational therapy of brainspotting (BSP). I integrate the approaches that best fit the needs of the person(s) in front of me.

Welcome! My approach to therapy is collaborative and relational. I work to support clients in developing an increasingly complex and embodied understanding of themselves in the context of the relationships and systems that they interact with. Through our work together, clients can expect to uncover habitual patterns of behavior that interfere with living the life they want, and over time to experience an increased sense of choice and flexibility in their actions. I aim to support individuals in developing a greater sense of comfort with themselves, and an increased ability to cope with the inevitable challenges that life offers.

Change is hard. Either change happens to us (as with the Covid pandemic) and adapting can be difficult and painful, or we want change and making that happen can be overwhelming and challenging. I have several years of experience helping clients create change in the ways they are hoping for. I have worked with clients from various age groups, teens through older adults, and have assisted them with a wide range of presenting difficulties including: anxiety; depression; relationship struggles; work/life balance; extended family, step family, and parenting challenges; grief and loss; and trauma.

Do you "have it all together" on the outside, but on the inside, feel like you are falling apart? You are not alone. I specialize in working with driven, highly-motivated emerging adults who are struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, and self-doubt.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
