Seeking counseling is an incredibly brave
act
: we live in a high pressure world that often makes it hard to ask for the help that we need and deserve to receive.
Hello! I'm so glad you found me! I am a seasoned counselor specializing in complex trauma - I generally see clients that are seeking treatment to address ongoing issues related to traumatic or chronically stressful experiences but I also work with individuals that are in need of support for depression, anxiety, and management of the stress that comes with living life day-to-day. I believe that there is no one blueprint for wellness and the experience of therapy should reflect that. Counseling should not be a rigid process - it can be silly, structured, serious, or something different every time.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have specialized expertise in anxiety and family systems. My clinical work is grounded in evidenced-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure with Response Prevention, Parent Management Training, and
Acceptance
Commitment Therapy (
ACT
). During care, I give ample attention to the family system as I have found understanding the context in which one lives provides insight for how to optimize symptom reduction and enhance overall functioning.

My greatest strength as a counselor is my genuine
acceptance
of every client in a truly non-judgemental manner.
Life has a way of forcing us to confront things which we believed we already overcame. Sometimes we look at ourselves and think, "how did I get here?". We can become so complacent and comfortable with discomfort that it becomes our new normal, forming our views and behaviors without our knowledge it's even happening. Sometimes we all just need an accepting and neutral person to process life with in order to regain control and understanding. We will work together to build respect and trust. I believe that counseling is not giving a hand to a person sitting in the mud, it's sitting in the mud with them and getting out together.

Suffering is part of being human. Sometimes we can take actions that remove our suffering, but sometimes we have to come to a level of
acceptance
that suffering is always present. Often, this mindset alone relieves some of our pain because we are no longer being bombarded by the thought of controlling our emotions. I strive to help you get there, releasing yourself from the trap of overwhelming thoughts so you can be more present, make room for your emotions, and take actions that represent who you want to be. My goal is to provide an environment that caters to your needs of safety and expression.

The therapeutic modalities that I pull from are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Self-Compassion,
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy, and mindfulness.
I believe that life can be both challenging and full of surprises. As we go through our day-to-day life experiences, we may be faced with obstacles that can interfere with our growth and cause us to lose sight of our larger goal and the life we want to live. I believe that it is my role to create a supportive environment where you can learn to be compassionate and grow into your best self. As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, empowering, and non-judgmental environment where we can explore your life story and work collaboratively to gain insight and develop skills that promote self-compassion and self-reliance.

acceptance

Are you struggling with the effects of trauma, grief, loss, or stigma or is your relationship struggling? What would your life be like a year from now if you were still struggling without improvement or attempting to heal? Wouldn’t it be better to start the healing process now? Do you feel anxious or unhappy, or just exhausted all the time? Trauma and wounds impact all of us, and repair work is a process. Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
