Suicidal Ideation Therapists in Cherry Creek, Denver, CO
You want a life filled with purpose, safety and depth in your relationships. Instead you find yourself repeating the patterns that once kept you safe. You throw yourself into work or devote all your time to taking care of others—maybe you’ve learned to detach or numb with sex or alcohol. You have the same argument with your partner, over and over again, but you're getting nowhere. These patterns are there for a reason; rather than spending a lifetime at war with yourself, let's re-imagine the way you relate to yourself and the level of honesty and intimacy you experience with others.

Your mind is constantly running like a hundred tabs open all at once. You start one task, then jump to another and so on. You find yourself over-giving, people-pleasing, or keeping the peace in your relationships. Setting boundaries feels uncomfortable, maybe even guilt-inducing. On the outside, you appear strong and capable but inside, you're overwhelmed and exhausted from carrying so much. You try to keep it together but inside, you're struggling and you're searching for a way forward. You’re not alone. And you’re not broken. But you are ready for meaningful change—and you're willing to put in the work to get there.

Accepting new clients in 2023, both in-person and telehealth. Depression, stress, fear, anxiety, and trauma are some of the most uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. We often find ourselves stuck, frozen, and unable to move forward, yet it hurts to stay exactly where we are. Conflict, stress, life changes, resentment, infidelity, focusing on the "business" side of family and running a home, can all drive couples into their own silos and erode emotional connection.

Although we all need support, it can be very difficult to ask for help. I strive to create a collaborative, respectful, and supportive environment in order to address your challenges, determine your goals, and achieve the personal changes you want to make.

I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to look at their issues and be willing to change. I feel the therapeutic relationship is a collaborative effort conducted in a safe and caring environment. The relationship between the therapist and the client is as important in the healing process as any techniques that are used. I feel it is important to empower individuals to go out and live a rich and fulfilling life. I certainly believe that it is a privilege and an honor to participate in helping people heal through their life's most challenging times.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
