Over the course of my life, I also learned many valuable lessons about chronic illness.
When working with individuals, I provide a space to explore who you are and who you want to become. When working with couples or polycules, I utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other methods to help find communication tools that allow each partner to feel heard and understood.

I know how difficult the search for a therapist can be. It feels like there's a lot riding on making the right choice, but there's so much uncertainty about what the right choice even entails. Of course you want a professional who seems qualified to address your specific areas of struggle, but it seems to me that the most healing aspect of therapy is the experience of feeling comfortable enough to be radically open with a therapist who you perceive to be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and real. Try to find someone you feel you can click with on an authentic human level; otherwise, it's likely to feel transactional and limiting.

I welcome working with individuals who have not been able to resolve issues on their own. If you’re here you might feel stuck, disconnected from yourself or others in your life. You may be overwhelmed with negative or critical thoughts about yourself and wonder why it’s hard for you to navigate life when others seem to do it effortlessly. You may have felt like you were different your whole life or like it’s hard to fit in anywhere. You are not alone. Our society is purposely crafted so that we feel constantly inferior. The truth is that there is no schedule or no one direction that works for everyone. Each person walks their own path and realizing this truth is part of the healing process.

I support my clients in becoming their essential self. Much of the time they show up with childhood strategies, beliefs and inner woulds that limit them in their life and relationships. My goals are to help my clients become more regulated in their nervous systems, more resilient in handling life's challenges and more connected in their relationships. I do this by using the client's body to let them know what their nervous system is trying to tell them. I also help with specific skills each client can work on throughout the week.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
