Humans are complex, so I look at the whole person, including your environment and experiences, when treating anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health issues. I often guide clients in exploring their identities, values, and beliefs so you can build self-worth, set boundaries that improve relationships, and make authentic decisions. We work together to set goals for counseling, process what you have been experiencing, and recognize and develop the strengths and supports that can get you to a place that feels better.

It is a privilege to witness people reclaiming their lives and experiencing the profound satisfaction that comes from living a values-centered life. I have been fortunate to attend a doctoral training program, internship, and postdoctoral residency that were each accredited by the American Psychological Association, which helped ensure a high-caliber training environment, which was also quite varied in settings, approaches, and diagnoses. During our sessions, I will guide, encourage, and teach you. The work you do between sessions will be the most important as you grow and change in profound ways.

I'm passionate about empowering individuals who have felt unseen, misunderstood, marginalized, and voiceless. I especially love supporting women in every stage of life as they rediscover their inherent strength, worth, and authentic selves. As a woman who has personally experienced the disempowering effects of trauma and shame, I understand the courage it takes to embrace who you are with compassion and authenticity. My deepest joy lies in helping others heal from past trauma, transform limiting beliefs of shame, cultivate secure and fulfilling relationships, find renewed purpose and belonging, and courageously share their stories.

My name is Michelle Wright and I am the owner of Beacon of Hope Counseling, LLC. My past experiences and hope to help others led me to the field of counseling and creating Beacon of Hope Counseling. I have learned through the years life is filled with joyous moments and then periods of difficulty and uncertainty. When experiencing life's barriers one can feel anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, depressed and even hopeless. Past events and trauma can also become barriers in us being our best selves. In these moments counseling can be helpful in gaining insight and learning ways to best cope.

In my years of providing therapy, I have witnessed a clear trend. Emotional wounds heal best when surrounded by hope, support, and a sense of self. In other words, I believe that people can best heal from the past when they find what they’re running towards. Pain can leave us feeling defined by our wounds, insecurities, fears, regrets, and unwanted patterns.

We are significantly shaped by the treatment we receive from others and the negative impact that painful relationships and experiences have on us. Your healing involves taking your power back from all of that and learning how to trust your own instincts and intuition. With this, my lens focuses on interpersonal trauma and c-ptsd attachment injuries. The goal is to overcome automatic responses and forge new neural pathways. These new pathways cultivate a way forward, where you operate from a place of healthy internal beliefs. Self-abandoning stops, interpersonal effectiveness improves, and stronger boundaries are found.

I believe that everyone can rise above their struggles and find healing and meaning in their life. No one should live with mental health, or relational issues alone. I believe that counseling is a partnership in which we are fellow travelers for a short time while we journey to discover how to use the resources you have, to accomplish your mental health or relational goals. My main scope of practice is in both couples and trauma therapies.

I work with kids, teens, and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, school stress, behavior challenges, and—especially for teens and young adults—disordered eating and eating disorders. As a bilingual Latina therapist and former school social worker, I understand the real pressures young people face at school, at home, and around identity, belonging, and expectations.

Finding the right therapist to assist you can be an exhausting process and can deter people from pursuing counseling. A key part of my clinical practice is to build rapport with my clients to assist them with feeling comfortable sharing what can be painful topics and issues. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most influential factors in assisting individuals to be successful in therapy and reach their goals. I especially enjoy working with the LGBTQIA2S+ community as I identify as an LGBTQIA2S+ individual myself.

United Medical Resources (UMR) Therapists
Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
