Humans are complex, so I look at the whole person, including your environment and experiences, when treating anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health issues. I often guide clients in exploring their identities, values, and beliefs so you can build self-worth, set boundaries that improve relationships, and make authentic decisions. We work together to set goals for counseling, process what you have been experiencing, and recognize and develop the strengths and supports that can get you to a place that feels better.

Life can become overwhelming, and it’s easy to feel stuck between worrying about the future and replaying the past. Stress, trauma, anxiety, self-defeating thoughts or depression can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your relationships, and the life you want to live. Therapy offers a safe, supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space to slow down, breathe, understand the emotional weight of what you’re carrying, and begin to heal. My goal is to help you learn to give yourself grace, build resilience, challenge self-negative thoughts and recognize that you are not defined by your past or the expectations of others.

My approach to counseling is grounded in the belief that healing happens in the context of authentic human connection. I strive to create a space where people feel genuinely seen, respected, and understood, especially during times when life feels overwhelming, confusing, or painful. At the core of my work is a deep respect for each person’s story and the understanding that meaningful change often begins when someone feels safe enough to explore that story openly.

After obtaining my Board Certification in Behavior Analysis in 2008, I used my energy and knowledge to develop ways in which to bring the value and quality of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to those populations that were underserved or often not recognized as people who could truly benefit from ABA. I pursued my professional counseling license to combine the worlds of counseling and ABA for the most comprehensive approach possible. Over the years I have learned that my niche lies with children who struggle with severe behavioral challenges, children/teens on the Autism Spectrum, and children and adults who have endured trauma.

Therapy doesn’t have to be stiff, awkward, or feel like a weird performance review of your feelings. I believe meaningful work can happen alongside a bit of dark humor realness. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, burned out, or quietly thinking “what is happening with my life,” you’re in the right place. My style is warm, collaborative, and very human. We’ll go at your pace, talk about the hard stuff, celebrate the wins (even the tiny ones), and figure things out together. And parents, is your kid is not thrilled about therapy? I tend to be a good fit for teens who are skeptical or reluctant.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
