Overwhelmed by the thought of starting therapy? I bet! It's a lot. And having so many options is great but can also add more overthinking and extra stress - the last thing you need! I know how stressful starting therapy can be. Keep in mind, you will feel relieved and motivated once your consultation is complete and your first session is booked, so let's get started right away.

I am a military veteran with over 20 years of active service. In that time I served as a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Master Resilience Trainer, Casualty Assistance Officer, and Chaplain's Assistant. I have sat with people in some of the hardest moments of their lives, carrying grief, trauma, and loss that most people never have to face. That experience is what brought me to counseling, and it shapes everything about how I work. I understand the culture, the language, and the particular weight of experiences that do not translate well to civilian life. You will not have to explain yourself to me.

If you’ve spent your life being told you're “too emotional,” “too much,” or if you’ve been masking, people-pleasing, and silently carrying pain no one talks about, I get it. You don’t have to do this alone anymore. Therapy with me is raw, honest, and real. I offer therapy in English or Spanish, whichever language your pain speaks the loudest in. I won’t sit above you or hand you rehearsed advice. I sit with you. In the mess, in the quiet, in the unraveling. When you’re ready, we move forward, together.

I believe in a real experience, with real people, and as such I strive to understand the specific needs and afflictions of each client, individualizing the therapeutic experience and counseling treatment one person at a time. Though afflictions may manifest similarly across clients, each person perceives and responds in different ways, making treatment individualization essential to positively promoting client growth and wellness. Formal education and personal life experiences have provided an opportunity for diversified understanding of individual client uniqueness.

When you or someone in your family is suffering from anger, anxiety, divorce, depression, or substance abuse, it can be overwhelming.
I work collaboratively with you to create specific treatment goals, and then we take action with support and accountability. It is my mission–and not just my job–to help those who are hurting learn how to heal, forgive, reconcile, and thrive again. It starts with listening well, and then providing you with support and structure to make real lasting change.

“No need to be ashamed of tears, for tears bore witness that a man had the greatest of courage, the courage to suffer” – Viktor Frankl. Sometimes we hide our pain or get stuck on the how of life; however, starting counseling is a courageous act on the path to finding the why. My why is to help the community that I grew up in with genuine compassion for each person who is struggling. People have always felt comfortable opening up to me, and I always find ways to help my community. Also, being a Colorado Springs native, I have always loved the outdoors and exploring its beauty.

It often takes incredible courage to seek support when facing difficulties! Life can throw a lot at us that can leave us feeling discouraged, alone, and unsure of how to approach things. Taking the brave step of reaching out for therapy, we can start the journey towards processing experiences, identifying barriers and patterns, and exploring strategies and resources for finding a way forward.

Maybe your thoughts never slow down or you fixate on the same thought over and over and over. You're terrified of something happening to your child and can't stop thinking "what if..." Maybe you feel like if there's one more thing added to your plate, you very well might explode. Or maybe you stare at your ceiling every night instead of sleeping, rethinking your day and what you could have done and said differently. Maybe you're having trouble finding your voice as a woman or setting boundaries for "you time," or you're struggling as a new a mom to love your little one and yourself at the same time. I see you and I can help.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
