Look at birds: they make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they learn to do that? They fall, and in falling, they are given wings. -Rumi ...In the course of being human, we all face losses and traumas of different degrees and in the process, find ourselves abandoning parts of ourselves in order to survive emotionally and interpersonally. Therapy is about reclaiming those parts and finding our way home to who we truly are.

Some of life's dilemmas require a conversation to resolve. A conversation that weaves past and present, fantasy and reality, desire and inhibition to form a detailed understanding of one's life. An understanding that allows us to think decisions through so we can decide what we want and how to go about getting there. This often starts with a stronger ability to say no to what we don’t want, but then transforms into a confidence to say yes to what we do want. Sometimes it’s trauma. Sometimes it’s how we think and feel. Sometimes it’s just putting ourselves last through self-destructive behavior.

Life can become overwhelming, and it’s easy to feel stuck between worrying about the future and replaying the past. Stress, trauma, anxiety, self-defeating thoughts or depression can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your relationships, and the life you want to live. Therapy offers a safe, supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space to slow down, breathe, understand the emotional weight of what you’re carrying, and begin to heal. My goal is to help you learn to give yourself grace, build resilience, challenge self-negative thoughts and recognize that you are not defined by your past or the expectations of others.

What does a life of wholeness and flourishing look like, and what barriers stand between you and that life? Do your goals feel distant or out of reach? Are you longing for deeper connection or breakthrough in your relationships—with your spouse, children, parents, or friends? Do you feel stuck in your work, unsure whether to stay or take a new step forward? Are anxiety, sadness, or the weight of your past making it hard to move ahead? If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay where you are. Please don't. There is no such thing as stagnation, we are either growing or dying.

Just think happy thoughts." "It's just a phase." "Quit worrying so much." "It could be worse." "When I was your age..." "What you should do is..." "You should just pray about it." If all this "helpful" advice has not worked for you then maybe it's time to try counseling.

In this age of fortitude, where new evolving experiences are accompanied by stress and anxieties of the world, resiliency and perseverance are a true necessity of life. Obstacles and adverse experience truly shape individual traits of excellence that reveal a commitment and dedication to personal growth. We all have a choice or role to play when overcoming these challenges of life. Individuals need a positive support system to walk with them in the face of these challenges. When these individuals commit to this self-care, accompanied by a mental health clinician, life changing work can begin.

Often, people feel like they have different parts of themselves inside that are pulling in different directions. It can be challenging to sort through it all alone. If you feel depleted, tired, confused, or overwhelmed, a good therapist can help you slow down and put the pieces together. If you feel reactive and on edge or feel like running away, or just plain shut down, good therapy can help you restore connection with yourself and others. And if you feel like traditional talk therapy is not enough, then you have definitely come to the right place!

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
