Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, or the lingering effects of trauma? Do you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself and others? You're not alone.
Imagine a fly beating itself against a window. It thinks if it just tries harder it can reach the light, achieve freedom, but no matter how hard it tries it can't escape. The sad part of this story is there is an open door right behind it.
My job is to show you the skills and steps to turn around and find the doorway to freedom from the stuck places our nervous systems have been locked into.

I love working with a diversity of clients. Many of my clients have started therapy because they want to have relief from depression, anxiety, insecurity, pain in current or past relationships, or trauma. I work well with people who want to be curious about their past, patterns, strengths, symptoms, survival strategies, and complexities.
I have noticed that I often work with people who want to investigate their worldview and patterns from multiple perspectives. They're open to -even if it's new at first- being both analytical and body-centered to learn more about themselves both by thinking and by feeling.

Look at birds: they make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they learn to do that? They fall, and in falling, they are given wings. -Rumi ...In the course of being human, we all face losses and traumas of different degrees and in the process, find ourselves abandoning parts of ourselves in order to survive emotionally and interpersonally. Therapy is about reclaiming those parts and finding our way home to who we truly are.

I work with couples, individuals, and families from an attachment-based framework, implementing primarily Emotionally-Focused Therapy and also Gottman methods.
Human beings are hard-wired for connection, which is as essential for survival as food, water, and air. When a person is deprived of that connection it creates bondage that can be crushing, robbing us of the freedom we were created to enjoy. My clinical experience includes trauma, attachment issues, adoption, parenting, marriage, family conflict, anxiety/depression, and spiritual formation.

I believe in the human capacity for resilience & work collaboratively with clients on successfully living with and growing from the effects of stress, illness, loss, & trauma. You have the right to enjoy a more satisfying life of creativity & fulfillment, embodying the amazing human you were created to be. Grief is inevitable. Sometimes we don't know how to feel or be with emotions so we 'stuff' them in maladaptive ways.

Maybe you think you're too much but somehow also not enough, too different, complicated, or even broken. You've spent years in hypervigilance, people-pleasing, masking, making yourself small, or going it alone to survive. You might be a trauma survivor, neurodivergent, queer, creative, or otherwise used to feeling like an outsider. You adapted because you had to. Now you're ready to feel more at home in your body, your relationships, and your life.

My ideal client dares to do the work in therapy and integrate that work outside of the session. I facilitate the creation of secure functioning relationships. For individual clients, that means strong attachment bonds to their sense of self so they can self-regulate and begin to create new opportunities to live a life of beauty, excitement, and exploration. While for my couples therapy clients, we will work on building secure functioning relationships within the partnership through the processes of non-violent communication skills and repairing ruptures promptly.

Have you experienced trauma, stress or loss in your life? Most likely the answer is yes, we all have a different tolerance for the things life throws at us. Everyday adversities can add up over our lifetime. Unfortunately, we live in a society that too often has a "forget about it and move on" attitude. I want to help you slow down and really look at how your life journey has impacted your overall mental health. My goal is to create a safe place for you or your child to begin understanding how these stressors are impacting your life. I want to normalize the importance of self awareness, communication and self love.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
