Look at birds: they make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they learn to do that? They fall, and in falling, they are given wings. -Rumi ...In the course of being human, we all face losses and traumas of different degrees and in the process, find ourselves abandoning parts of ourselves in order to survive emotionally and interpersonally. Therapy is about reclaiming those parts and finding our way home to who we truly are.

You're searching for a way home to yourself, but you're not even sure who that is. Maybe you're carrying patterns that no longer serve you or questioning who you are beneath the roles you've been taught to play. You might be navigating a life transition, wrestling with questions of meaning and purpose, or feeling disconnected from your own authenticity. Maybe traditional therapy hasn't always honored the fullness of who you are and you're looking for something deeper. Enter Nostoura.

I have also worked with teens in JDAP programs and with clients on probation for substance abuse and anger management.
My preferred therapy style is a strength-based perspective, that emphasizes self-determination and resilience which takes a positive focus to a person’s strengths. I also incorporate art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialect behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I have found that I enjoy working with young children to the elderly.

Life can become overwhelming, and it’s easy to feel stuck between worrying about the future and replaying the past. Stress, trauma, anxiety, self-defeating thoughts or depression can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your relationships, and the life you want to live. Therapy offers a safe, supportive, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space to slow down, breathe, understand the emotional weight of what you’re carrying, and begin to heal. My goal is to help you learn to give yourself grace, build resilience, challenge self-negative thoughts and recognize that you are not defined by your past or the expectations of others.

Our lives are shaped by significant people and experiences that influence our attachment, mindset, and worldview. As a therapist, I walk alongside my clients as they make sense of these relationships and experiences. I honor each person’s story and offer a compassionate, grounded space where you can show up exactly as you are and be met with authenticity and care.

"I am not what happened to me. I am what I choose to become." In today's world, people can be ambushed by any number of experiences that can leave us drained, exhausted, and feeling like it's hard to move forward. Counseling can be an outlet for individuals to sort through what they're feeling, and get perspective, and assistance, and most of all, a certainty that someone is listening; that your voice is being heard.

How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
