Welcome. I am glad you are here. I’m a clinically trained social worker with nearly 25 years of experience supporting individuals and families through life’s most challenging moments. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with people navigating a wide range of issues—including sexual and domestic violence, as well as chronic and life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, Type 1 diabetes, ALS/MS, dementia, and end of life. In every setting, one truth has remained clear: grief work is central to how we cope—not just with loss, but with transitions, diagnoses, and shifting relationships.

After 20 years in the health and wellness world I developed a deep belief that we have what we need to heal ourselves. Each of us carries an innate wisdom in our bodies and we need guidance and support to tap into that innate healing capacity. I am passionate about being witness to that process and working with individuals to creatively find our way to healing.

I couldn't have guessed that becoming a therapist would be the best way to work with the scared and perfectionistic parts of myself; I'm so glad I took this path. I'm a lover of people and their stories, a mountain adventurer, and a deep ecologist. My background (and constant side projects) are in land conservation and non-profit leadership. I chose to study social work because it takes a systemic approach and focuses on social justice. Crested Butte, CO has been my home since 2007.

Hello I'm Darlene Egelhoff, a Somatic, body-centered therapist. My practice is devoted to those who are grounded enough to go deep—individuals who have already done meaningful inner work and are now ready for true transformation. Drawing from advanced training in EMDR, Somatic and Parts Work therapies, nature-based integration, and mental health nutrition, I go beyond traditional talk therapy, to connect heart, mind, body, emotions, and spirit. I look to the body as a wise resource, ally, and guide to tap into the inner healing intelligence we all possess through a holistic perspective.

You’re tired of doing all the things and still feeling like it’s never enough. You push yourself to be everything for everyone. You try to eat better, think more positively, and be more productive—but deep down, you're still wrestling with self-doubt, anxiety, people-pleasing, or the urge to escape with food. You might look like you’ve got it together on the outside, but inside? You're overwhelmed, exhausted, and wondering: Why can't I just fix this already? What’s wrong with me?

Non judgement and unconditional acceptance are the cornerstones of my practice. My strength is looking at each client's issues as opportunities for learning. Body centered education, teaching how emotional feelings become feelings in the body, is emphasized. Learning from my client's current awareness is the goal in any session. My work is non-religious but Spiritual. My intention is to have each client lose the need for ongoing therapy. I have been successful in helping hundreds of individuals. I see adults, teens, couples and groups.

Life is (blank). How do you fill in the (blank)? We are all striving to feel heard, understood and connected, but all too often this business of being human – our personal histories and our entangled thinking – brings struggle and suffering. We can lose our purpose, passion and vision. We can feel unsteady, and disconnected from our true self. I can help. My counseling approach is not about discipline, hard work or grit. It is about stilling the mind, seeing clearly, removing barriers and realizing your innate capacity. Capacity for wisdom, love, and resiliency. Capacity to realize your full potential.

I am deeply honored and grateful to work with clients who are committed to challenging beliefs, behaviors, and habits that no longer serve them and hinder their true self-expression. We are all on a personal journey to confront and heal from past attachment trauma wounds. Like you, I have battled feelings of unworthiness and sought value through people-pleasing and codependency, among other coping mechanisms for trauma and sexual assault. All your behaviors serve a purpose for your survival and resilience. With this understanding, we can embrace self-compassion, which is where deep healing begins.

Are you feeling out of sync with yourself — emotionally, physically, or spiritually? Many of my clients come to therapy sensing something deeper is calling for alignment. They may feel stuck in cycles of unresolved trauma, people pleasing, or self-doubt, disconnected from their bodies, or overwhelmed by sensitivity or empathy. Together, we explore how to restore coherence between your mind, body, and energetic system so you can live with greater clarity, vitality, and ease. I support adults with trauma-attuned, transpersonal somatic psychotherapy. I also offer supervision for CO LPCC's working toward LPC licensure.

We are all many different things. We have many different feelings. We have many different issues. And we address them (or not) in different ways. We are a handful, and sometimes we need someone else to help figure things out. Human beings have a great capacity for growth and change, and in working together we can find the best version of yourself to be more authentic, happy, peaceful and inspired. My approach is simple: get personal. With an eclectic academic and professional background, I am committed to helping people through a method specific to their needs.

Accepting new VIRTUAL clients - Hi there! I'm Lindsey. My therapeutic approach is to show up through an attachment-based, relational lens, where what matters most is genuine, authentic connection. Our stories contain both what happens to us that is outside of our control and how we respond to these experiences that is within our control. As your therapist, my hope is to empower you to choose how you respond and become the author of your own story. It's important to me to provide you with the support, guidance, and resources you need to pick up the pen and decide where you're going next.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
