You're managing everyone's emotions, shrinking yourself in certain rooms, expanding in others, and still expected to hold it all together while the world debates whether your rights even belong to you. The exhaustion is real! Even when everything looks fine from the outside. My ideal clients are women who are ready to do the hard work, high achievers, women navigating major life transitions, empty nesters wondering "now what?", women pivoting later in life, and those working through relationship changes, breakups, or divorce. If you're done just getting through it and ready to move through it, this is your space.

Life can be filled with heartbreak(s), disappointments, and frustrations that lead one to feel hopeless and filled with despair. Unfortunately, during this time, we feel alone, or we fear no one understands what we are going through. The veil of resilience and compassion is important and necessary to put our skills in perspective to help give clarity in any situation. My approach to mental health patients is centered around empathy, respect, evidence-based support, and non-judgmental communication.

I am especially passionate about supporting individuals from marginalized communities, including Black/ African American identities, those involved in the criminal justice system, and neurodivergent populations (Autism/Down Syndrome).
I aim to focus on who I am working with before committing to how I approach our time together. Although I lean toward Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Informed, Psychodynamic, and DBT aspects, my integrative lens promotes tailoring to fit your needs (individual, cultural, systemic, etc.).

Secure, confident individuals are not born, but created. Trauma, relationship struggles, and major life changes can disrupt our sense of stability and connection. Often, we may find ourselves repeating patterns we don't fully understand - in our relationships, our families, and within ourselves. What once helped us survive may now be creating isolation, conflict, or emotional overwhelm.

Do you feel like your past experiences have left you disconnected from yourself and others? Or maybe you’re starting to recognize how your upbringing shaped you—and you’re ready to break cycles, not just cope with them. Perhaps you're a woman that looks like you have it together—but inside, your mind won’t slow down? The overthinking, self-doubt, and harsh inner voice are exhausting. You’ve tried the coping skills you see online, but nothing seems to create lasting change. Maybe a life change like pregnancy or postpartum left you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or quietly wondering, “Why does this feel so hard for me?”

My ideal client is the person, couple or family navigating communication styles, life and career transitions, and relationship difficulties. They might also struggle with insecurities and self acceptance. They navigate social justice issues in their communities, families and work spaces. More than anything, my clients need to feel accepted and respected. They exist in spaces where they are judged and misunderstood. They are sometimes in danger of harm for the way they look, the way they love, for their beliefs, or identities. Like anyone else, they want to exist in a world that tells them they shouldn't.

Real conversations. Honest growth. Therapy that meets you where you are — and helps you get where you’re going. Finding the right therapist matters. You deserve someone who is warm, real, and willing to meet you exactly where you are—while also nudging you toward the version of yourself you keep saying you want to become. My style is direct, collaborative, and infused with humor, because therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or clinical to be effective. We’ll talk, we’ll explore, we’ll challenge old patterns—and yes, you will do the work. But you won’t be doing it alone. I work with humans in all types of relationships

I help women, adolescents, and adults who grew up carrying too much—navigating attachment wounds, childhood trauma, parent–child conflict, and stress in the body (tension, asthma flare-ups, shutdown, panic attacks). I also support teen parents, adults who were teen parents, those shaped by chaotic or addiction-impacted homes, and women issues including maternal mental health. Clients want relief, understanding, and support as they break generational patterns, feel safer in their bodies, and build healthier, more connected lives.

You’ve done the journaling, read the books, and tried to understand yourself. On the outside, you may seem high-functioning, self-aware, or emotionally insightful, but internally you still feel anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in the same relationship dynamics. You feel stuck in survival mode despite doing all the “right” things. I specialize in working with teens and adults navigating anxiety, trauma (PTSD and C-PTSD), ADHD, and attachment patterns through relational, trauma-informed virtual therapy across Maryland and Colorado. Your lived experiences deserve the space to be heard, and you don't have to hold it alone.

Life can be filled with heartbreak(s), disappointments and frustrations that lead one to feel hopeless and filled with despair. Unfortunately, during this time you feel alone, or you feel like no one understands what you are going through. The veil of resilience and compassion is important and necessary to put the following four concepts in perspective to help give clarity to a situation: 1. Insight 2. Self-Esteem 3. Action 4. Healing. There are no issues too great for an individual to overcome if they put forth the effort. Therapy is a process that promotes change and encourages an individual to seek their self-selecting truth.

FAQ - Black and African American Counselling
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
Working with an African American therapist can often mean that you start from a place of shared understanding with a therapist rather than having to explain your experience from scratch. A therapist who shares your racial identity is more likely to understand the specific pressures shaping your mental health, including navigating racism, cultural identity, and the overall experience of being Black in the United States. They are also more likely to understand the role that family, community, and cultural expectations play in your life without requiring a lengthy explanation. This shared foundation can create a greater sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship and make it easier to open up at the start of therapy.

Are there Black therapists who specialize in working with Black men or Black women?
Yes, many Black therapists have specific experience working with Black men or Black women. While therapists who work with Black clients broadly address concerns relevant to all genders, like anxiety or depression, those with a gender-specific focus are equipped to work with you on the particular ways that race and gender may intersect. For example, some therapists may specialize in working with Black women on topics like body image or maternal mental health, while other therapists may work with Black men on topics such as relationships or masculinity.

Do Black therapists offer marriage and couples counseling?
Yes, many Black therapists are trained in couples and marriage counseling and can work with partners navigating a wide range of relationship challenges. Therapists who identify as Black may have a better understanding of the cultural dynamics surrounding marriage, family roles, and conflict that are specific to African American communities and can work with you and your partner without making assumptions about your background.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black clients?
The initial consultation, which is typically a brief phone or video call, is the right time to raise a therapist’s experience working with Black clients. You can ask specific questions, such as "Do you have experience working with Black clients?" or more broad questions, such as "How do you approach cultural identity in your practice?". During the initial consultation, you can also ask whether they have undertaken training in cultural competence and how they would handle a situation where a cultural misunderstanding arose in therapy. A therapist who responds to these questions thoughtfully and without defensiveness is a good sign they are equipped to work with you effectively.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
