Whether the pain is recent, decades-old, or even generational, you may find trauma is keeping you stuck in survival mode with most of your energy focused on just getting through the next hour. Despite the fatigue, a part of you still remains curious, maybe even hopeful, that there is more to your future than just coping. If you're ready to take back your agency, reconnect with your resilience, and define yourself beyond your past, I am here to help you reclaim your story.

Just think happy thoughts." "It's just a phase." "Quit worrying so much." "It could be worse." "When I was your age..." "What you should do is..." "You should just pray about it." If all this "helpful" advice has not worked for you then maybe it's time to try counseling.

Life often hands us things we may not want nor are we prepared for. It’s like a book. The first page is that of LIFE and the last page is that of death. The center pages can get messy. You still have pages though, and what you write can be whatever you choose. Even when the book gets dirty, torn or broken, the blank pages are still there...waiting for you to fill them. Life is full of many twists and turns and the way we are foundationally taught to handle life varies from person to person. My view of therapy is that of a passenger. I am one that walks alongside you in your journey toward healing and wholeness.

Once upon a time, a military medic took a moment to listen to the story of a soldier who was suffering somatically from the sheer amount of distress they felt. That medic found her "Ah-ha" and pursued further education within the mental health field with passion unmatched.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.
Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.
Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.
What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
