Welcome to Harper Ridge Counseling! Are you nervous or anxious about starting therapy? My goal is to meet you wherever you are and help navigate and support you to facilitate healing. Oftentimes we don’t pursue therapy when we are in the greatest place and oftentimes need someone that can show them non-judgement and a little grace.
Every individual is unique to their own values, beliefs, and what they are striving towards. My clients understand that therapy alone will not fix or solve their current issues but that if we take a whole person approach to healing we can get a little closer to your desired outcome or goal.

Hi. Are you someone who is worn-out and drained from always caring for others? You know you "should" take better care of yourself, but you feel guilty, or it's just hard to stop doing for everyone else. Maybe you've said something like, "I can relax when everyone around me is ok", or "I can't be ok when my partner is (insert emotion here)", so you try to help them feel ok, so that you can feel ok? Or maybe you are an empath who simply absorbs whatever others feel.
"I just need to care less!" might be an impulse that makes a lot of sense, but the solution isn't caring less, it's in caring from a full cup rather than an empty one.

I also incorporate Narrative Therapy, Attachment Theory, Experiential, Existential, Psychoanalytic, Psychodynamic, Motivational Interviewing and CBT depending on the client's needs.
You don't need more talk therapy or another perspective. You need therapy that helps you uncover what's keeping you stuck and creates meaningful, lasting transformation.
Many of the people I work with have already tried therapy, read the books, learned new coping skills, or spent years trying to understand themselves. Yet they still find themselves struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship conflict, perfectionism, emotional reactivity, low self-worth, addiction, or feeling disconnected from the people they love. The problem isn't a lack of effort. It's that the deeper roots of these struggles have never truly been addressed.

I have spent nine years working primarily with survivors of abuse and complex trauma, dissociative disorders, anxiety, depression, difficulty coping with day to day life stressors and the need to process faith. I operate primarily from a Christian worldview, and my Masters Degree from a Seminary has given me a solid foundation to help when theological questions are part of the struggle.

There should always be hope, and you shouldn’t have to suffer alone! No matter what you are facing, I believe that together we can find solutions and hope again! We all face difficulty, but it is important to remember that the way you feel is only temporary! It is only a matter of time before the sun eventually comes out after a storm. While life can be challenging at times, having a skilled professional can help you to manage whatever difficulties you are going through. It’s my job to “walk along-side you” in a non-judgmental manner and offer you the support, encouragement, and the concrete solutions you are seeking.

You think deeply about everything — including what's been causing you pain. You've read the books, you exercise, you reflect. You can trace your patterns back to where they came from. And that self-awareness is real. It matters. But at some point you noticed that understanding something and actually feeling different are two completely different things.
You're not falling apart. You're disciplined, capable, the person others rely on. You've built a life that looks right from the outside. But there's a distance between who you are in public and what you actually feel — and you're tired of managing it.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
