Although we cannot avoid life’s pain and trauma, we do not have to process it alone. I see counseling as a collaborative and supportive process that can aid in one's healing. Maya Angelou said, “You can’t really know where you are going until you know where you have been.” I believe it is imperative to evaluate our life story and the meaning we have attached to our experiences. Recognizing the root of our maladaptive thoughts and emotional distress allows us to receive the hope and healing needed to move towards a satisfying and purpose-filled life.

Are you or have you ever been in a season of life where you feel isolated, stuck, overwhelmed, or just not feeling your best? You are not alone! Everyone has struggles, whether that be in relationships, friendships, marriage, or family dynamics. Facing hardships in life is not uncommon and is something you should never face alone nor be ashamed of. Thus, I am confident that seeking help through counseling is not a sign of weakness but instead one of the bravest actions you can take as a human being!

I believe everyone experiences trauma, even when it is often dismissed as “life happens.” When too much "life happens" life becomes overwhelming, having support can make all the difference in restoring balance and well-being. I consider it a privilege to walk alongside clients as they process their experiences and develop tools for healing, growth and resilience.

As a Therapist, I want to provide my teen and adult clients with a safe space to process through challenging experiences, to better understand and explore their emotions, and to empower them to create attainable goals for the future. In therapy sessions, I work to listen, validate, and challenge in order to help clients create better methods of coping and also increase their self-compassion. This typically results in improvements in anxiety, depression, and negative beliefs.

What if our journey in life isn't meant to be a journey of proving we are enough. What if our journey is one of knowing that we always were. What if who we are, exactly how we are has always been enough; enough to be loved, to be heard, to be seen, enough to be you. Traumatic experiences have a way of making us feeling that we are irreparably broken. We carry them with us in our mind, body, and soul as we continue through our lives searching for something to fill the emptiness they left behind. To the outside world we are who we've always been, yet inside we are showing up in our lives as someone we don't even recognize.

Hi, my name is Cary Hileman, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (License No. 2165) in Colorado. My approach is very client-center as well using Cognitive/Behavior therapy. I use many other approaches as needed depending on what the client needs. I am usually fairly direct when needed but am fairly easy going as therapists go. I enjoy a good laugh and try to bring humor to therapy because it can be all too serious at times.

Finding a good therapist is no easy task. The search can be exhausting, especially when you’re just trying to find someone who will get you. Therapy is a vulnerable place to find yourself being. However, taking this first step moves you closer to the change you seek to make within yourself. Change can be scary, and I commend you for taking the first step in seeking to find someone.
