Many of my clients live with trauma, dissociation, long-standing stress, or chronic pain that hasn’t responded to conventional "talk therapy
Therapy with me is about making sense of what your body, emotions, and history hold, and using that understanding to move forward. My work is informed by training, consultation, supervision, and lived experience. I value clinical training, and I’ve seen how lived understanding deepens trauma work in ways theory alone can't.

Or I can help you build healthy habits and lifestyle changes to manage a chronic or complex health condition (e.g., chronic pain, diabetes, cancer, or another condition).
You've tried everything the internet recommends for sleep (melatonin, sleep hygiene tips, blue light blockers) and you still lie awake, mind racing, dreading the alarm. You may also be struggling to deal with shift work, have chronic nightmares, or are not tolerating a PAP machine. Or maybe you were given a medical diagnosis that changed everything, a body that doesn't cooperate anymore, or stress that's stopped being "manageable" and started affecting your work, your relationships, and how you feel in your own skin. If you're tired of feeling stuck, and ready for effective strategies that last, you're in the right place.

I am a mother to 3 adult children, grandmother to the sweetest girl, and the wife of a very gifted husband. As a therapist, I've been challenged in treating people to a standard or healed. Every medical profession, except that of mental health, has a standard to bring a client to, in order to be considered healthy or healed. The Optometrist corrects vision to 20/20, a dentist corrects teeth to be straight or with no cavities, an orthopedic doctor corrects broken bones back in alignment. Therapists are called on to help restore, heal, and empower clients to move forward in life.

It can be hard enough at times reaching out to friends or family when you’re struggling, let alone some random counselor you’re reading about online. Awkward! It's all good, though. You'll feel relieved and motivated once your initial consultation is complete and first session is booked. We’ll start with a no-charge 20-min. phone call to review how I work, what you want from therapy, and see if we might be a good fit to work together. If at any time in the process we determine another therapist would better suit you, I'll help you find other options. I'm happy to help in whatever way I can.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
