My name is Michelle Wright and I am the owner of Beacon of Hope Counseling, LLC. My past experiences and hope to help others led me to the field of counseling and creating Beacon of Hope Counseling. I have learned through the years life is filled with joyous moments and then periods of difficulty and uncertainty. When experiencing life's barriers one can feel anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, depressed and even hopeless. Past events and trauma can also become barriers in us being our best selves. In these moments counseling can be helpful in gaining insight and learning ways to best cope.

I help individuals navigate conflict, transitions, domestic and narcissistic abuse, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and depression.
I work with people who are carrying a lot and are ready for things to feel different, even if they’re not sure where to start. Many come in feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or disconnected due to trauma, anxiety, ADHD, mood struggles, parenting stress, or major life changes. I keep therapy real, human, direct, supportive, and collaborative. Humor is a big part of my approach, because even heavy work should feel human. Together, we build practical tools, process what you’ve been through, and create change that actually lasts, so you can feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life.

I am a mother to 3 adult children, grandmother to the sweetest girl, and the wife of a very gifted husband. As a therapist, I've been challenged in treating people to a standard or healed. Every medical profession, except that of mental health, has a standard to bring a client to, in order to be considered healthy or healed. The Optometrist corrects vision to 20/20, a dentist corrects teeth to be straight or with no cavities, an orthopedic doctor corrects broken bones back in alignment. Therapists are called on to help restore, heal, and empower clients to move forward in life.

As we go through life people and experiences leave their imprint on us. Some experiences and people leave us with positive feelings, others might not. Stress happens. Anxiety happens. Depression happens. Change happens. Family, work, school and relationships can leave us feeling depleted emotionally and drained. Asking for help is not always easy. Where to find that help might be even harder. I am here to listen. I like to use a variety of counseling techniques as not all people and what they are experiencing can be helped with a one size fits all approach.

Working with a therapist can not only increase your self-knowledge but offer support and new approaches to those challenges you are facing. I am a certified trauma specialist and intuitive eating counselor.

Schedule now through my website in my bio! Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself” (Rumi). As a trauma survivor on a personal healing journey, I learned how to help others simultaneously. Healing was hard work, but finding the right therapist was a huge piece of the puzzle. Traditional therapy fails so many trauma survivors. I aim to go beyond talk therapy to find the right modality for each unique client. It is a passion of mine to work with clients who face problems of trauma, stress, coping with depression, and anxiety such as military veterans, and survivors of abuse.

Bipolar Disorder Therapists
What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?
Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?
Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?
Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?
Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
