It will take time and effort, but it is possible to exit negative cycles, decrease anxiety or trauma symptoms and experience more moments of peace, clarity and contentment. Healing can come about in many ways including independent self-reflection, intentional effort, spirituals experiences or through meaningful and intimate relationships just to name a few. Another avenue to healing is the counseling process. Counseling can expedite the healing process and helps people cope, heal and correct painful wounds and behaviors as well as deepen relationship connection and satisfaction.

Status: Code 4, Inc. (SC4i) was created following the numerous reports of First Responder suicides across the United States and Canada. First Responders are civilian and military members who perform law enforcement, firefighter, EMS, dispatch and other emergency services. Dr. Crampton retired as a paramedic after 25 years in EMS, which gives SC4i a unique position to intimately understand the stressors associated with being a First Responder. The results of these stressors contribute to a vast number of issues. These issues include depression, anxiety , PTSD, Compassion Fatigue, divorce, domestic violence, and substance abuse.

I work with a deep focus on growth areas such as: attachment, sexuality, trauma, suicidal ideation, religious trauma, depression, anxiety , body image, and adjustment/transition issues.
In the process of learning to love yourself, your body, and others there is no such thing as setbacks. What we think is a setback is a growing point, a learning point to lead us further in our relationship with ourselves and others. I would love to work with you navigating those areas of growth, while also seeing the strengths you already possess. It takes such courage to start looking for help. I will seek to empower you in this process and allow for healing and change.

EMDR and Mindfulness/Body-Awareness approaches are an evidence-based modalities that have well documented success in treating not only PTSD as well as trauma related disorders but also mood disorders, anxiety disorders, reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders, grief, phobias, and somatic disorders.
Much of people's suffering comes from feeling disconnected from others, unresolved past issues that affect their present lives, and feeling unsafe in their bodes. Trauma is often thought to be the result of war, or severe abuse, when really there is a whole range of experiences that can be traumatic. They can include growing up in an invalidating family environment, surgery and illness, the loss of a loved one, divorce or ongoing relationship issues. Because trauma affects the brain, body, and nervous system, integrative approaches have been most successful in helping people feel whole again and lead meaningful and satisfying lives.

My practice borrows from various approaches: humanistic, ACT, strengths-based and solution-focused approaches, as well as other research-based techniques and strategies for managing certain problems like panic attacks.
Counseling can serve as a unique place to learn about yourself, manage distress better, and enhance the quality of your life. Whether you're looking for short or long term assistance, I am an experienced therapist who can help. I am a firm believer that we all possess the basic capacity to heal and grow from all of our struggles, if we have the right conditions for doing so: adequate understanding, space, and permission. I have been honored to be a facilitator of that space for so many over the past decade of my service as a licensed psychologist.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
