How's it going? I'm a counselor (LPC). I imagine you've come here because you are an individual, a parent of a child or adolescent , or a couple who's looking for a counselor. Why? Maybe you feel like you just can't escape personal feelings of inferiority or the ongoing effects of traumatic events of your past. Your behavior is hurting your relationships, and maybe you aren't even sure why. It could be that your day-to-day activities either stress you out or they no longer bring you meaning or joy. Or, maybe you just want to believe more in yourself and what you offer this world.

I have worked at every level of care including IOP, PHP, adult detox, adolescent inpatient, and outpatient settings.
It takes courage, time, and money to pursue counseling and my desire is to honor each of these. My goal is to build trust with you while understanding the value and unique perspective you bring, and ultimately, to empower you to tackle the hurdles you are currently facing. I enjoy using an eclectic approach that considers what you most need first. I will help you work toward finding unhelpful thought and behavioral patterns and build compassion and greater understanding toward your story, while remembering that it takes patience and deep digging to experience true healing.

I have been working with kids in the "system" for the last eleven years. I have been very successful in addressing parent/child conflict as well as reaching those adolescents who are otherwise difficult to reach. While my primary expertise is in dealing with adolescent boys, I am also well-equipped to deal with the family as a whole. If what you are doing isn't working, call me.

Being a teenager can be both exciting and daunting! I believe in an evidence-based approach when working with individuals struggling with thoughts of suicide, depression, grief/loss, trauma, anxiety and related issues.
Don't Just Feel Better, Get Better---Congratulations on making the courageous first step! Finding a therapist you connect with can feel a bit overwhelming and scary. Are you curious about new ways to approach the challenges in your life? All our life experiences represent building blocks of who we are today, yet they do not have to define who we want to be tomorrow. And some of the things that cause us grief can also be our greatest gifts! Do we mesh yet? As in any relationship, it is important to get to know one another, so I’ll go first.

As an experienced adult and adolescent therapist, I offer counseling for anxiety, depression, and traumatic stress. Beliefs and emotional responses learned from experience can limit us, affect our physical health and our relationships. The pandemic and its consequences have proven to be particularly challenging. It matters what we focus on, how we interpret it, and how we respond. Learn how to manage symptoms while they lessen or are eliminated. Visit my website springswellness.net to learn more, or call/text for a initial consultation. The mind and body are inclined to heal. Let yourself adapt and recover.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
