Emotional pain manifests itself in various ways - anxiety, depression, ambivalence, repetitive unhealthy choices, addictive behaviors, physical symptoms. All are grist for the mill of psychotherapy. Also, sometimes we come to impasses, dilemmas in our work, career, relationships, sexuality, spiritual orientations. Therapy can be a safe place to sort these things out.

I am a licensed clinical social worker since 2010. I received my masters degree from Newman University in Colorado Springs. My personal difficulties taught me to be compassionate to myself and others. Asking questions instead of telling someone who they are is a tangible tool that leads to listening to our own truth instead of feeling okay only if someone else says we are. It can be difficult work, and the rewards are tremendous as we unwind the trauma to see the gifts hidden by the hurts. The journey from trauma to trust is a leap of faith. This is why I identify with the Phoenix as a way to come thru the ashes and move forward.

Are you feeling generally dissatisfied in life right now? You've navigated your way through some anxiety and depression over the years but now you feel stuck...maybe a bit burnt-out. You want life to FEEL good again and you're ready for some real lasting change. You have some awareness of why you're feeling the way you are, but something doesn't quite add up. Some familiar struggles might include perfectionism, being/feeling present, anxiety, confidence, people pleasing, relationships/relationship satisfaction, comparison to others, work-life balance/dissatisfaction with work/lack of clarity about work, fatigue and motivation.

Each person has a story. Every story is valuable. Some stories are told in public with pride and fanfare, and others are held in private and sometimes never told, even as they affect what makes you who you are, or who you want to become. Sometimes difficulties, trauma, or setbacks that you have experienced in life have taught you to see the world or react to the world in a certain way. I believe that it’s possible to reframe that thinking over time and become a person that is truly healthy and happy. I love to see where people are in their stories and help them set goals to get to where they they want to be; become their best self.

Accepting new clients. Do you feel like you’re alone, even around friends and loved ones? Unable to express your feelings or pretending to have meaningful relationships? Do you struggle to convey ideas at work or feel misunderstood? How we connect with others has a huge impact on our lives. Especially the relationship with yourself. Who are you? What do you want? How do you talk to yourself? Communication, both expressing thoughts and feelings and understanding what others are saying, is complicated and can lead to breakdowns in relationships or not understanding yourself.

Do you find yourself stuck with thoughts like, “It’s okay if other people make mistakes, but not me,” or questions like, “Am I enough..?” These painful stories we tell ourselves often stem from our histories and experiences, and continue to play out in our lives and relationships. They affect how we feel able to show up in the world. My goal as a therapist is help you understand, explore, and challenge these stories and thought patterns, and support you as you create and practice alternatives that are empowering and authentic to you.

My passion for counseling stems from a deep desire to help individuals overcome challenges and reach their potential through tailored therapeutic approaches. I believe that within every crisis lies the path to well-being, meaningful relationships, and a vibrant life. Transformation occurs through acceptance of self and desires, and by embracing all experiences—good, bad, and chaotic—to uncover one's authentic self and create a new narrative of healing, resilience, and hope.

Why counseling? Maybe you're scared, anxious, and demoralized because you've been victimized. Maybe you're at a point in life where what you're doing, thinking and feeling is not working. Maybe you're depressed about a troubled relationship or the loss of a loved one. Maybe you're frustrated because your children just don't seem to get it. Maybe you're angry, and hurt because others are taking advantage of you. Maybe you're level of confidence has decreased. Maybe you're feeling hopeless because you think there's nothing you can do to make the situation any better.

Seeking therapy can be an intimidating experience. Hat’s off to you for starting the process! My strength is my practical approach to finding a means to change ways clients have been stuck in their lives. Often that means understanding how past hurts or trauma have influenced our current attitudes, beliefs and gut-level reactions. Other times it means working on changing what is happening in the present. I specialize in depression, anxiety, coping with stress, as well as treating those who have been victims of abuse, in childhood or adulthood. I also work with adoptive families. I am EMDR, level 2 trained.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
