We are happy that you are here, and we hope that we will get to walk alongside you for this portion of your life! While we cannot change the past, or sometimes the external stressors of our present lives, we can impact our trajectory going forward. And here at KCAPS, we believe in supporting people to do just that. Together we may move between past, present, and future... healing, recovering, processing, liberating, exploring, problem-solving, building, empowering, etc depending on your goals and your needs.

My ideal client is the person, couple or family navigating communication styles, life and career transitions, and relationship difficulties. They might also struggle with insecurities and self acceptance. They navigate social justice issues in their communities, families and work spaces. More than anything, my clients need to feel accepted and respected. They exist in spaces where they are judged and misunderstood. They are sometimes in danger of harm for the way they look, the way they love, for their beliefs, or identities. Like anyone else, they want to exist in a world that tells them they shouldn't.

I work virtually with clients across Colorado and Texas who may be finding themselves struggling with the impacts of trauma and noticing they're repeating patterns in their intimate relationships that they want to be different. They are open to exploring the complexities of their upbringing and learning how these early templates are showing up in their lives now. They are curious - and perhaps frustrated by - what is motivating their thoughts, emotions and behaviors, and are looking for deep, lasting change.

I specialize in working with thoughtful, introspective adults who often feel misunderstood or have spent years trying to understand themselves without finding lasting answers. Many are navigating trauma, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties, chronic self-doubt, or recurring patterns that no longer serve them. My approach is collaborative, relational, and insight-oriented. If you're looking for a therapist to simply tell you what to do, we may not be the best fit. If you're looking to better understand yourself, explore deeper patterns, and create meaningful, lasting change over time, my approach may be a good fit for you.

Nothing seems to be working, as the day’s pass you noticed a disconnect. The relationship is becoming unfamiliar. Your partner no longer feels like your partner. Arguments are more common than compliments and toxic exchanges seem like the norm these days. The stress is starting to affect other aspects of your life. The relationship with yourself seems more like a distant memory. You could use a vent session with someone who gets it. whether you're arguing more with your partner or constantly yelling at the kids. Do you find yourself wondering what happened to the laughter and love? Where did the relationships take a detour?

Sometimes the life that looks most successful from the outside is the one that feels most costly behind closed doors. My clients are high-achieving professionals and couples who are respected, capable, and visibly accomplished — and who are quietly overwhelmed, whether at work, at home, or both. They may be excelling professionally while struggling personally, or finding that the patterns that built their success are no longer sustainable in either domain. They aren't falling apart. They're tired of mistaking endurance for wellbeing.

I enjoy working alongside clients by providing a safe space to process thoughts and feelings without judgment. My approach is rooted in a psychoanalytic and insight-oriented perspective, meaning I spend time exploring deeper patterns and experiences that may contribute to self-limiting beliefs or recurring struggles. In addition to my clinical training, I hold a degree in Biblical Studies. For clients who wish to incorporate faith or spirituality into their therapy experience, I welcome those conversations and can thoughtfully integrate them into the healing process. I strive to approach our work with cultural humility and openness.

Are you new to your therapy journey or hoping to continue investing in your mental health?
No matter where you are in journey, let's explore together! I know change and growth can be scary, and it can be much easier to embrace the process with someone else. We can all be growing and developing throughout our lives while having confidence in who we are. Let's take the time to reflect and process where you are, where you want to be, practice consistency in showing up for yourself and learn that we are often not going to be the exact same person we were years ago. That's okay! Change is wonderful, but we can still preserve the pieces

FAQ - Black and African American Counselling
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
Working with an African American therapist can often mean that you start from a place of shared understanding with a therapist rather than having to explain your experience from scratch. A therapist who shares your racial identity is more likely to understand the specific pressures shaping your mental health, including navigating racism, cultural identity, and the overall experience of being Black in the United States. They are also more likely to understand the role that family, community, and cultural expectations play in your life without requiring a lengthy explanation. This shared foundation can create a greater sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship and make it easier to open up at the start of therapy.
Are there Black therapists who specialize in working with Black men or Black women?
Yes, many Black therapists have specific experience working with Black men or Black women. While therapists who work with Black clients broadly address concerns relevant to all genders, like anxiety or depression, those with a gender-specific focus are equipped to work with you on the particular ways that race and gender may intersect. For example, some therapists may specialize in working with Black women on topics like body image or maternal mental health, while other therapists may work with Black men on topics such as relationships or masculinity.
Do Black therapists offer marriage and couples counseling?
Yes, many Black therapists are trained in couples and marriage counseling and can work with partners navigating a wide range of relationship challenges. Therapists who identify as Black may have a better understanding of the cultural dynamics surrounding marriage, family roles, and conflict that are specific to African American communities and can work with you and your partner without making assumptions about your background.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black clients?
The initial consultation, which is typically a brief phone or video call, is the right time to raise a therapist’s experience working with Black clients. You can ask specific questions, such as "Do you have experience working with Black clients?" or more broad questions, such as "How do you approach cultural identity in your practice?". During the initial consultation, you can also ask whether they have undertaken training in cultural competence and how they would handle a situation where a cultural misunderstanding arose in therapy. A therapist who responds to these questions thoughtfully and without defensiveness is a good sign they are equipped to work with you effectively.
Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
