I believe when you lead with curiosity and flexibility, anyone can find their way through. This is how I approach every client I get the opportunity to know. I'll bring professional experience, education, and training (and my anecdotal history with anxiety and depression); you bring just enough hope to log into the session, and we will find the way through together.

The holidays can bring up a lot, like conflict or tough emotions, which can be challenging when you feel like you’re supposed to be “merry” all the time. Managing grief, anxiety, or depression this time of year can be tough. Coming from a corporate America background, I know what it is to be “outwardly successful but inwardly defeated." Maybe you're a young adult looking to identify your values & strengths, or you're a corporate professional looking to unpack your identity & worth outside of work. Or maybe you're an engaged/married couple looking to have a strong connection with your partner, built on trust, friendship, & intimacy.

Anger, resentment, loneliness. What happened? This was not the plan. It was supposed to be different…better. The desire for relief from the hurt evokes thoughts of escape. But, if you follow that path the price-tag for everyone seems too great! But the fact is, this relationship isn’t working. The thought “I can’t keep doing this” is coming more often. Things need to change, but how? After trying everything else, nothing’s really better. It feels hopeless. Yet, the truth is, it’s not hopeless. Many couples go through similar difficulties and struggles, and there is help that can heal and restore your relationship.

Are you dealing with the lingering effects of a difficult childhood, often marked by challenging and emotionally volatile relationships with your parents? You might find yourself in pain and confusion, struggling with feelings of never being good enough, constantly striving for perfection, or avoiding conflict at all costs. These experiences may leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and always walking on eggshells. Burdened with unmet emotional needs, people-pleasing tendencies, destructive communication patterns, and a lack of healthy boundaries, it can be hard to create healthier connections with yourself and others.

You might be feeling stuck—maybe it’s recent, or maybe it’s been building for years. You might feel unappreciated in your relationship, caught in the same cycle, anxious about what to do, and desperate to feel joy and connection again. Maybe it feels hopeless—or maybe you have a strong foundation and just want to grow closer. Maybe the depression feels heavy, life transitions are overwhelming, or parenting stress and career confusion are piling up. Maybe you’re simply looking for clarity or a deeper sense of self. You don’t need to have all the answers—just an openness to explore it.

Hello, I’m Kyrzia Parker (she/her), MSW, LCSW, CDWF. I created One Starfish Counseling and Supervision to be a place where people come to heal, grow and explore. The name comes from The Star Thrower by Loren C. Eiseley. The story is about a child who tries to save all the starfish that were washed up after a terrible storm. While the child is throwing starfish back into the water, someone admonishes the child that they cannot save them all, cannot really make a difference. The child keeps throwing starfish back, stating, “Well, I made a difference for that one!” Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.

Life can be really tough. Without the right tools, psychoeducation, and safe, supportive relationships, it can leave us feeling lost and ill-equipped to handle challenges as they come up. I’m here to help you feel supported in your journey as we equip you with the toolbox you need to work through roadblocks that may be preventing you from reaching your optimal well-being. In doing so, you deserve to feel heard and comforted in a healthy space that encourages discovery of even your most complex emotions such as shame, grief, anger, etc.

There are many reasons people begin therapy; the most important one is yours. I may be able to empathize or understand things in your situation, but your perspective is all your own. Your reasons are valid, and whatever your struggle, it is real. The most successful therapeutic relationship is one where we work together to find and help you achieve your goals. It is not always easy work, but when you are truly ready, it can bring incredibly powerful and lasting change. I come to this work with an open heart and a wealth of personal and professional experience that lends to my practice.
