Welcome to my psychoanalytic practice for adults. Our minds have a huge influence on how we think and feel each day; slowing down and noticing subtle aspects of ourselves with a trained analyst can provide much needed integration of powerful emotions that have not yet had a voice for expression. People can articulate emotions without feeling them, experience emotions in the body, can't find words, and unthinkingly go into action never quite feeling satisfied. Integrating feelings and thoughts vitalizes human life.

You deserve to feel more at home in yourself — and the path there doesn't have to be complicated. Summer is a good time to try something different, even if "different" just means having one steady place to land each week. I'm Katie, and I offer therapy across Colorado for teens and adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, body image, disordered eating and religious trauma. If you've been stuck in all-or-nothing patterns around food, focus, faith, or self-worth, you're not alone, and you're not broken. Affirm Counseling is my clinical home, and I'm currently accepting new clients.

I'm passionate about providing a space where your whole self can be seen, heard, and understood. My clients are navigating the complexities of cultural identity and want a therapist who can validate and affirm those experiences. I often work with Asian-identifying clients who are looking for someone who truly “gets” the nuances of their upbringing and lived experience. I support non-Asian clients who value my ability to bring a thoughtful, third-person perspective—someone who is used to viewing situations from multiple angles. Together, we’ll explore what it means for you to live more authentically.

I work with individuals, couples, and families and treat a wide range of presenting issues, such as highly sensitive individuals, anxiety, personality disorders, and more.
Knowing we can be loved exactly as we are gives us the best opportunity to grow into the healthiest people. Relational psychotherapy and counseling help restore hope and connection, even during seasons of immense pain and suffering. Having a compassionate space where you can be heard and feel known is essential while working through difficult feelings, emotions, thoughts, and challenging experiences. As the therapy deepens, the individuals I work with gain insight into the presenting symptoms and patterns of behavior that initially brought them to see me.

This is not the life you saw for yourself. Now it feels like you barely makes it day to day. The playful, creative spark: now diminished by the grind of survival mode. More withdrawn. Depressed. Anxious and insecure. If you could just see yourself the way your friends and family do, you'd be "leaping tall buildings in a single bound" and inspiring others.

I love to work with folks who are struggling to make their way in life, who hope that life can be better, but aren't quite sure how. I understand how desperate life can feel, and also how real healing can transform the way you feel in your own skin. There are times when we know something's wrong, and can't figure it out on our own. Maybe you feel "crazy" in relationships, experience debilitating depression, anxiety, or panic, or are relying on unhealthy habits to cope with your day to day life. Maybe all of the above. If this describes you, take heart, because real healing is possible, and I would like to help.

My goal is to walk alongside you on your journey and provide the support you need on the journey. There is no judgement based on diagnosis or background. I have spent most of my clinician career working with those with severe mental illness diagnosis or requiring residential mental health treatment. For those transitioning from that setting it is hard to find a clinician and one of my goals is to be able to walk alongside those in transition from residential or intensive mental health treatment as they re-integrate back home.

Personality Disorders Therapists
What are the common treatment options for personality disorders?
Personality disorders are typically treated with psychotherapy, sometimes in conjunction with medication. Therapy can help people with personality disorders develop skills to tolerate difficult emotions, navigate interpersonal relationships, and solidify their sense of self. Medications can treat symptoms that co-occur with the disorder, such as depression, anger, aggression, and impulsivity.

When to seek treatment for personality disorders?
Even though treatment for personality disorders can be an uphill battle, it’s best to seek help if you suspect that you or a loved one is struggling with one, because personality disorders can create substantial problems in life. Symptoms depend on the specific disorder, but overall signs of personality disorders include consistent difficulty maintaining close relationships, dramatic variations in self-esteem, and an unstable sense of identity.

How long does therapy take for personality disorders?
The timeline for treating personality disorders isn’t as clear-cut as it is for other disorders. Change can be difficult, taking from around one year to five, 10, or more. The key is finding a therapist who has extensive experience treating the relevant disorder. For example, a psychologist who specializes in narcissistic personality disorder has specific communication strategies that allow them to sustain the relationship and be more effective with narcissistic patients.

Can therapy help people with personality disorders?
Research suggests that for those who are motivated to address concerns or interpersonal conflict related to a personality disorder, therapy is far more effective than no treatment, and that most people in therapy see improvements. However, since personality disorders involve entrenched elements of identity, they are less responsive to treatment than are other mental health conditions. Finding an expert who has extensive experience working with a given personality disorder is one factor that increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
