Have you ever felt alone, tokenized, or shamed for being "different"? After so many of these experiences, you start shaming yourself and doubting your worth. Shame is sneaky and it can cause destruction within ourselves. You may not fully believe that you’re lovable, but you want to get there one day. There are many societal forces that keep us from connecting with our inner selves and the world around us. I’m passionate about equipping folks with the tools to navigate racial trauma and the effects of colonialism. I can support you to embrace self-love & confidence by encouraging connection with your authentic self.

As a psychotherapist, I partner with individuals who are wanting to work with/on their relationships, family dynamics, trauma (past or present), grief, identity, anxiety, and/or depression. One of my primary specialties is with adults who grew up in a dysfunctional household, working to resolve how those experiences are manifesting negatively in the present. Additionally, I specialize in relationship issues and grief. I work with people who are highly motivated to engage in their own healing process in order to grow, change, and cultivate possibilities.

Deciding to begin counseling can be intimidating! Maybe you've been thinking about going to therapy for a long time, or maybe something happened to you that you need space to process, with some guidance. I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing difficult life transitions, mood and anxiety disorders, and those who aren't quite sure what category they would fall into. Regardless, our job together once you walk into the room is to figure out how I can best help. It's okay if you don't know what that looks like, yet. That's part of my job!

Have you ever desired change but felt stuck in a personal situation, experienced difficulty in a relationship, or struggled with maintaining the motivation to change behaviors over time? Almost all of us have experienced these feelings at one time or another and it is my belief that therapy can be a positive resource to generate change, growth, and forward movement in your life. We are all greatly impacted by the various relationships we have with those in our lives, and with our own experiences thus far. Therapy can offer the insight and tools to navigate the complexities of those relationships and improve your overall wellbeing.

There are times in our life when growth looks confusing, and we can develop unpleasant symptoms or maladaptive coping skills. We all go through phases in our lives, and I think that sometimes we benefit from help navigating the temporary situations. I provide cognitive behavioral therapy, and brief, solution focused counseling when you need some extra help. Some of my clients I have seen for years, and others see me as they would their medical provider, when issues arise. My hope is to help you successfully process your thoughts and feelings and discuss alternative choices or behavior.

Over years of experience, I have discovered that people develop a way of thinking about themselves, others, the world. How we think determines how we experience life. This way of thinking includes negative beliefs that we develop about ourselves. There's really only a handful and they sound something like "I don't matter" or "I'm worthless," "It's never good enough" or maybe "something is wrong with me." These beliefs keep us stuck because they are not just in our heads. They are connected with emotional experiences, often very painful. So even though we know we're worthy, we don't feel worthy.

Care and support are essential for living a full life, but support can present itself in many ways. Maybe you are seeking better coping skills, the resources to develop better boundaries or deal with conflict in a healthier way, or maybe you are simply seeking someone to listen and allow you the space to grow into the person that you want to be. I work with each client with the understanding that they have their own struggles and own way of needing support so that they can begin their journey to health and happiness. My approach is strengths-based, integrative, and inclusive.

Life can feel heavy sometimes, you seem to be plodding along just trying to get through it, or worse, waking up filled with dread at what the day ahead will bring. You struggle to find anything to get excited about or look forward to. It could be that something intangible has shifted and you have lost your sense of hope, optimism, and enthusiasm. Or perhaps a transitional event has occurred; you left a job, changed careers, retired, divorced, your kids grew up and moved away, you experienced the loss of someone close to you, received a life altering medical diagnosis, or a caregiving role has consumed your life.

For 30 years, I have helped clients overcome depression, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship conflicts, ADD, addictions, workplace, and motivation problems. I am a very interactive, direct (often with humor) and solution focused therapist who challenges clients to instigate the change they want to see. I help clients develop skills in approaching discomfort rather than avoiding. Using cognitive strategies, I can help you change negative thinking to positive. I help clients express their healthiest emotions rather than using emotions to defend or manipulate. I encourage exercise and mindfulness for optimal living.
