My approach uses mindfulness,
somatic
, and emotionally focused modalities to support you in connecting to inner depths with greater awareness and clarity, and to work with stress and trauma's impact to more sustainably engage with self, relationships, and community.
Perhaps you are looking for a non-judgmental and knowledgeable space to integrate your experiences of gender, sexuality, and relationships. Perhaps you are experiencing barriers in your sexual and relational health: you feel out of control, disconnected, or stuck in painful patterns. Perhaps you seek a space that affirms the whole of your identities- race, gender, sexuality, relationship styles, neurodivergence, disability, and other aspects- to discuss what is on your heart. I find survival strength, resilience, and creativity at work even in the most challenging of circumstances. The whole of your being is welcome here.

I apply effective mindfulness,
somatic
, and social justice approaches to support clients to feel skillful as they explore their deepest concerns.
I work with individuals struggling with the effects of unresolved trauma, which can look like experiences of anxiety, depression, and panic attacks, as well as challenges in relationships and sex life. My counseling incorporates a mind/ body approach that is based on an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma and that is highly attuned to cultural and societal context so as to promote more possibilities for healing. My aspiration is to support my clients to feel keenly aware of their sense of empowerment, agency, and wholeness in the present moment rather than feeling defenseless against overwhelming emotions and bodily states.

I specialize in sex therapy and relationship counseling, using the technique of
Somatic
Experiencing to address past trauma that may be impacting your present.
Do you feel unsatisfied in relationships? Not seen, heard, or understood? Have difficulty navigating intimacy and communication? Is your sex life a source of distress? Are you hard on yourself about not being able to do things differently? I believe lasting change requires more than just talk therapy. Many of our wounds are stored in the body and we must speak the language of the nervous system in order to understand and heal them. Our work will address symptoms and stuckness at this level, which has the power to rewire habitual responses that formed around early attachment difficulties or trauma throughout the lifespan.

I work with children using play therapy and teens and adults using a wide range of therapy modalities (ex talk therapy, EMDR,

Life isn't easy. Maybe you feel a vague sense that something is not quite right. Or things might be so overwhelming that it feels like your inner world is collapsing and your external world is turned upside down. Perhaps from the outside things look ok, yet on the inside there is a deep pain, or you feel dead inside. Maybe you are living in the grips of what seems like an endless place of despair and trauma. It is possible to move past stuckness and the cycle of yuckyness to a place beyond survival that allows release, growth, joy and a sense of purpose.

Your thoughts are racing-examining what you did, or could have done, wondering if you are over-thinking the situation. You try to pretend everything is okay but deep down there is a nagging feeling that something is off. So you work on doing all of the right things, trying to fix yourself, trying to improve, but the feeling inside doesn't change. You may even over-perform in attempt to prove to yourself and the world that you are worthy. But the feeling lingers. Many of my clients have had similar struggles with anxiety, perfectionism, self-doubt, trauma histories, or difficulty feeling comfortable in relationships.

No one said that divorce was easy, but you didn’t know it would be this challenging. You’re sure you made the right choice for you and your former spouse, but your separation has been far more destabilizing than anticipated. You’re still processing the confusion, shock, and anger of losing your partner. And it’s terrifying to imagine facing the future all alone. Meanwhile, trying to piece your life back together in the wake of your failed relationship is proving too difficult to handle by yourself. You desperately need some help figuring out the next steps and don’t know where to turn. There must be a way forward.

*IN-STATE TELETHERAPY AVAILABLE* You can't shake the feeling that you're settling for less than is possible in your relationship. The problems in your relationship feel stuck, like they're just not going anywhere. You find yourself and your partner getting upset and reacting in the same old unhelpful ways over and over, but just don't know how to find your way back to authentic, loving intimacy. You're scared there might not be a way back. But you're hopeful that, with professional support, you can reclaim the sexual and emotional intimacy you've been missing, and find a way out of the same old fights and back into being in love.

I have a natural heightened ability to perceive
somatic
traumas that may be buried deep inside the unconscious mind & body.
True transformational healing happens at the level of the soul. Traditional counseling focuses on fixing faulty thinking. Rather, let's uncover the negative unconscious beliefs about yourself that motivate this thinking. It is the quality of the relationship that you have with yourself that will ultimately determine how quickly you can manifest what you love.

Research shows that the number one key factor to living a long life is directly related to one’s feeling of connectedness with others. Yet, a quarter us feel as though we have no one to talk to. It’s biologically imperative to know that we belong, matter and feel seen and heard. Therapy helps people (sometimes for their first time ever) to feel understood and have their reality/experiences validated in a safe, nonjudgmental and accepting way. I use strengths-based, person-centered, CBT, mindfulness, and
somatic
techniques to help you work towards understanding your problems, and finding solutions.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
