I work with people in life transitions, grief, anxiety, parenting, foster/adopt issues, trauma, job stress, relationship discord, infertility , post-partum issues and more.
I named my business Life Journey Counseling because I believe that we are all on a journey. We typically have ideas about where we are headed and how we will get there, but life often deals us something different...something we didn't plan for. How we handle that is the key to our own personal growth. I am inspired by the power of people to help themselves, but also a firm believer in the importance of having support and help when we need it. I help people through the therapeutic relationship we form to realize their full potential.

Benjamin Franklin once said "Happiness depends more on the inward disposition of Mind than on the outward Circumstances". Of course, as a psychologist, I understand that the pursuit of happiness is more complicated in the 21st century than it was in the 1700's. I also know from many years in mental health that it can be difficult to have positive thoughts when you're struggling in life. The support of a professional therapist can help ground you, and assist you in finding the perseverence it will take to put up the protective lightning rod for life's stormy weather.

My practice centers around the belief that every individual has the power to make dynamic change in their life... and the work we do together is just the catalyst to finding your most authentic, resilient self. I show up as both a human and therapist, and do not empathize a power hierarchy with my clients. My dedication is to move you towards your goals through compassion and mutuality, while celebrating the progress you've made along the way. I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to explore your core values and consider ways to integrate them into daily life.

There are all kinds of reasons for seeking counseling. The ones we think of most have to do with mental health: depression, suicidal thoughts and urges, anxiety, grief, and navigating life transitions. There are plenty of other reasons as well, whether relational, existential, spiritual, et cetera. Common among all these listed and unlisted reasons is the theme of a problem, question, difficulty, hope for change and/or insight.

Life is full of challenges. I believe these challenges can also be stepping stones to our own personal growth. Whether stress from a job, a relationship issue or perhaps experiencing depression or anxiety, everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental, safe place to be able to talk. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I strive to make my office a comfortable environment where those "hard conversations" can happen, resulting in a deeper understanding of what roles we play in relationships as well as how our thoughts impact how we feel and act.

You want to be loved and experience pleasure, but getting there can be difficult. Many of my clients find that a lot of areas in their relationships and life are going well, and that can make the stuck areas all the more frustrating. You might have found googling (as I like to call "WebMDing) or searching for solutions yourself only make things worse, feel more awkward or get you even more into your head. While you may feel like a failure, or broken, or like it's all your fault, you have only done your best with what you know, which is all we can do. And, that's where working with me comes in!

Experiences of anxiety, depression, and trauma take a massive toll on our lives and relationships, often leaving us feeling out of control, disconnected, and dissatisfied. However, I believe that healing is not only possible, but is something that we are naturally moving toward, even when it doesn't feel that way. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can reconnect to that natural impulse toward healing.

Infertility Therapists

How can infertility affect couples and their relationship?

Clients who are dealing with infertility may experience conflict and communication problems. It’s not unusual for shame, blame, and guilt to arise in cases of infertility, whether the source of the problem is one partner or both. This means that clients are upset and pulling away from their partner just when they need them the most. Some clients may find it difficult to spend time around friends and family who are pregnant. Friends and family can also make hurtful comments that increase tension during this time.

How does therapy for infertility issues work?

The therapist will begin by gathering information about the client or couple and make a treatment plan for their specific concerns. In addition to addressing common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma reactions or PTSD, therapists can help clients improve their decision-making and deal with stressors unique to infertility. Some examples include coping with the “two-week wait” before a pregnancy test, the distress associated with a failed attempt or miscarriage, and the shame and blame sometimes associated with reproductive concerns.

What type of therapy is best for infertility issues?

Many therapists offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples who are dealing with infertility issues. Some helpful therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which can aid clients in reframing negative thoughts about their situation. Expressive writing and art therapy can help clients process difficult feelings. Clients might also benefit from group therapy to experience support from others who are dealing with the same problems.

How long does therapy for infertility issues take?

There is no set length for therapy that addresses infertility or reproductive concerns. Some clients might find it helpful to continue therapy during their pregnancy to have healthy ways to cope with any associated stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Some clients who decide not to pursue fertility treatments might benefit from the support of a therapist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual client’s specific needs and goals.
