I work with people in life transitions,
grief
, anxiety, parenting, foster/adopt issues, trauma, job stress, relationship discord, infertility, post-partum issues and more.
I named my business Life Journey Counseling because I believe that we are all on a journey. We typically have ideas about where we are headed and how we will get there, but life often deals us something different...something we didn't plan for. How we handle that is the key to our own personal growth. I am inspired by the power of people to help themselves, but also a firm believer in the importance of having support and help when we need it. I help people through the therapeutic relationship we form to realize their full potential.

Some of the issues that I have experience with include helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, codependency
grief
and
loss
, coping with life changes, chronic or acute trauma, issues of PTSD, and depression.
People come to psychotherapy because they want to feel better. A big part of a therapist’s ability to help a person feel better lies in their taking a compassionate and loving stance toward that person. As a transpersonal, mindfulness-based and person-centered therapist, I strive to create a safe space to explore your inner world. I work with you on strengthening a mind-body connection to support a whole-person healing journey. By aligning to clients’ innate wisdom I assist clients in feeling heard, empowered and supported to work through their relational patterns, wounds and trauma.

Specialty areas I include in my practice are adolescents (such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, school and family issues),
grief
/
loss
/transitions (
death
of a loved one, chronic or life threatening illness, pet
loss
, separation or divorce, job change/

Life is full of challenges. I believe these challenges can also be stepping stones to our own personal growth. Whether stress from a job, a relationship issue or perhaps experiencing depression or anxiety, everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental, safe place to be able to talk. As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I strive to make my office a comfortable environment where those "hard conversations" can happen, resulting in a deeper understanding of what roles we play in relationships as well as how our thoughts impact how we feel and act.

WELCOME! I ENJOY WORKING WITH INDIVIDUALS who are motivated to learn about themselves and their relationships~to their partner, family, work, creative endeavors and/or physical health. CLIENTS report that they appreciate my humor, compassion and interactive style. TOGETHER, we explore how specific patterns may be at the root of emotional, interpersonal and/or physical challenges. TO BRIDGE THE GAP that often occurs between insight and transformative change, I draw from my background in the MEDICAL FIELD, as well as from NEURO("BRAIN")SCIENCE, MINDFULNESS PRACTICES and current research regarding the intricate RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH.

As a Certified
Grief
Counselor, I have a passion for educating my clients about normal
grief
responses.
Do you get anxious and overwhelmed easily? Are you more emotional or feel things deeper than other people you know? Do you tend to notice things others don't? Are you highly intuitive? Have you always felt different or flawed? Do you startle easily or are sensitive to loud or annoying sounds? If you answered yes to many of these questions, you may have a normal trait known as a Sensory-Processing Sensitivity, aka Highly Sensitive People. I have this trait and am dedicated to helping others navigate their life in healthy ways. In addition to being a licensed therapist, I am a Certified
Grief
Counselor.

I specialize in childhood
bereavement
and am skilled in working with many of the challenges children and adults face when confronted with all aspects of
grief
and
loss
.
I work with children, teens, and adults who might be experiencing overwhelming feelings and emotions, are stuck in disruptive patterns, or are feeling detached from the things that were once loved. Perhaps there has been a significant change, traumatic event or challenges at school that have made things feel different than the way they were. Sometimes you might not be sure what has changed but feel that something is just not right. Support can be helpful if you or your child are struggling with sleep concerns, physical aches and pains, behavioral changes, or an overall sense of worry or stress.

You’ve experienced a great
loss
or significant trauma and your world feels dark and confusing. You feel lost, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, numb, and exhausted – often all at the same time. You’re wondering who you are now and if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. I get it. I’ve experienced it.
Grief
and traumatic stress are messy and unruly, and they definitely don’t obey clearly defined stages or fit neatly into any timeframe. Still, as painful as this is to hear,
grief
is normal, natural, and necessary. And, healing from a traumatic experience is possible. You don’t have to face either alone. I’d be honored to walk with you.

I am a licensed professional counselor with experience working with individuals, families and groups. I enjoy working with clients of all ages, but I have a special affinity for early adolescents and teenagers. My experiences as an educator serve as the foundation for working with these clients and their families. I use a client-centered approach and believe my clients are experts in their own lives. I view my role as therapist as a facilitator who assists clients in discovering their own truths and gaining a deeper sense of themselves.

It can seem like taking an hour out of your week to focus on yourself and your experience of change or
loss
is not time you have available.
Life can feel heavy sometimes, you seem to be plodding along just trying to get through it, or worse, waking up filled with dread at what the day ahead will bring. You struggle to find anything to get excited about or look forward to. It could be that something intangible has shifted and you have lost your sense of hope, optimism, and enthusiasm. Or perhaps a transitional event has occurred; you left a job, changed careers, retired, divorced, your kids grew up and moved away, you experienced the
loss
of someone close to you, received a life altering medical diagnosis, or a caregiving role has consumed your life.

I specialize in body image and eating disorders. Worrying about what people think of you all of the time can feel so shallow, and yet the fear of being unworthy or unloveable runs so deep! The inner critic can be such an unrelenting voice, it can be hard to find a way to live your life. I would love to meet you if this is your struggle. I can help you reconnect with who you really are, and live a creative, connected, embodied, empowered life. I combine depth psychology with art therapy, active imagination, dreamwork, journaling, mindfulness, and meditation. This is not your run-of-the-mill counseling, this is Soul Work!

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
