I think some things are better discussed in private with an outsider to your life (as opposed to a friend or
family
member), especially if that outsider is an educated professional who has an idea of what to listen for and how to engage helpfully.
There are all kinds of reasons for seeking counseling. The ones we think of most have to do with mental health: depression, suicidal thoughts and urges, anxiety, grief, and navigating life transitions. There are plenty of other reasons as well, whether relational, existential, spiritual, et cetera. Common among all these listed and unlisted reasons is the theme of a problem, question, difficulty, hope for change and/or insight.

Anyone who is at the point of accepting help has an innate wisdom into their own healing. By the time you find me, I know you are ready to change. I believe you know best and I will be here to guide you in the direction you want to go. I work with clients who are struggling with major life transitions, anxiety/perfectionism, parenting/
family
struggles, spirituality, feminine awakening, self-esteem and relationship difficulties. I work with adults and children, but in different capacities. For minors, I provide 50-minute art therapy sessions. For adults, I provide a combination of coaching and art therapy, each session is 1-2 hrs.

I can provide effective individual, couples, and
family
counseling and EMDR, CBT, SOMB, and Motivational Interviewing to help you clear away trauma memories and help you reach your goals.
Are you struggling with your relationships, depression, anxiety, and past trauma? Perhaps you have experienced sexual abuse in your past and you are having trouble with current relationships. Are you a juvenile who has committed a sexual offense? Counseling can help. I use EMDR, it is a type of therapy that can be done to address those memories and clear a path to a happier, healthier you. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a therapy that can help people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. Here is a link to a video to introduce you to EMDR: https://youtu.be/Pkfln-ZtWeY

Specialty areas I include in my practice are adolescents (such as depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, school and
family
issues), grief/loss/transitions (death of a loved one, chronic or life threatening illness, pet loss, separation or divorce, job change/loss), women's issues (pregnancy, hormones), as well as working on relationships with couples and families.
Life is full of challenges. I believe these challenges can also be stepping stones to our own personal growth. Whether stress from a job, a relationship issue or perhaps experiencing depression or anxiety, everyone deserves to have a non-judgmental, safe place to be able to talk. As a Licensed Marriage &
Family Therapist
, I strive to make my office a comfortable environment where those "hard conversations" can happen, resulting in a deeper understanding of what roles we play in relationships as well as how our thoughts impact how we feel and act.

"We don't have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to."-Brene Brown. I whole heartedly believe that healing occurs when we invite others to step into our story and walk along side us in times of struggle, hurt, and unknown. Because of this, I consider it an honor and privilege to be able to join you in your search for healing and wholeness. Although I am equipped to work with individuals in any stage of life I am especially passionate about working with children, teens, and young adults struggling with anything from anxiety and depression to trauma and self discovery.

It's so important to have someone to talk to when going through difficult times - unfortunately we don't always have that opportunity. As a therapist, I strive to have my clients feel like they can be seen, heard and feel safe in a comfortable and confidential setting. I use strength-based, person-centered techniques to help my clients work towards self-awareness and personal growth. I also value learning from my clients each session and help my clients to develop self-compassion. I believe that it is important to have as much empathy for oneself as you would for a close friend or
family
member.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
