Life does not always go according to plan. We experience many things that are outside of our control, but they leave a lasting impact on us as human beings. Life is a journey that is not meant to be walked alone, but instead in relationships and with vulnerability and openness. Therapy is an opportunity to build skills and resources to process and navigate life's everyday challenges. Asking for help and finding someone to share your burden with is a great show of strength and courage! For the quickest response please visit my web page and fill out a contact form.

Care and support are essential for living a full life, but support can present itself in many ways. I have worked with adults and adolescents for 30 years to overcome depression, anxiety, anger, stress, relationship conflicts,
ADD
, addictions, workplace, and motivation problems. I am a very interactive, direct (often with humor) and solution focused therapist who challenges clients to instigate the change they want to see. I help clients develop skills in approaching discomfort rather than avoiding. Using cognitive strategies, I can help you change negative thinking to positive. I help clients express their healthiest emotions rather than using emotions to defend or manipulate. I encourage exercise and mindfulness.

NOTE: I am on maternity leave until July. I believe that we are all born on this planet as whole, worthy human beings. I also believe that our various lived experiences — including trauma in all its forms — can have a big impact on our beliefs about ourselves and the ways we show up in the world. As a therapist, my goal is to help you get back in touch with your truest, most authentic self and uncover whatever it is that may be preventing you from living your most joyful life. I work from a person-centered, collaborative, and integrative perspective, offering a non-judgmental space for clients to explore all parts of themselves.

Do you consistently struggle to get on the same page with your partner? Is there endless fighting about anything and everything? When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
