Carrying the weight of past hurts, trauma, or persistent sadness each day require a tremendous effort others cannot see. It’s exhausting to mask, and you are not alone. Such feelings often trace back to a disconnection from one’s true essence. I focus on guiding individuals through confidence struggles, questions of belonging, and the search for meaning by reconnecting to the loss essence of oneself. This leads to self-acceptance and inner kindness. Together, we'll work to process old pain and identify the cycles keeping you stuck, empowering you to build a life that feels authentic and deeply satisfying.

I believe our emotional lives—our feelings and memories—serve as vital pathways to our capacity for authentic aliveness. Yet we often struggle to make sense of these experiences and harness them for meaningful change.
Core emotions that frequently haunt us—fear, anger, sadness, loneliness—can become powerful openings to a greater sense of meaning when explored, elaborated, and understood within an individual or group therapeutic setting. Through a process of emotional discovery, we can transform what once limited we into sources of wisdom and connection.

I believe that much of our suffering begins with a lost connection. When we're depressed, we've lost touch with our own vitality, even our own reasons for living. When we're grieving, we've lost an essential part of our world--and, with it, a part of ourselves. When we're operating from a place of shame or fear, we've lost the internal sense of security and belonging that reminds us we're okay. I believe that psychotherapy works by restoring these vital connections--to ourselves, and to the people and pursuits that give our lives meaning--so that we can live our lives more authentically, creatively, and fully.

Life isn’t always easy, inevitably, everything changes. Sometimes it’s the challenge of personal growth that we set for ourselves - who are we outside of work, family, and our busy lives? Have we lost ourselves in our busyness and forgotten our hopes and dreams? Have we forgotten who we are? Life transitions such as divorce or loss of a loved one may turn our world upside down. How do we find a way through the pain when everything feels overwhelming? Where do we even start?

It takes courage to acknowledge that our old ways of doing things are no longer serving us. Sometimes we feel that change is needed but we don't know where to start. I work from a foundational belief that ALL of us are capable of taking the steps necessary to actualize our full potential - the brilliance of who we truly are - and that sometimes old patterns get in the way.

I work with all parts of you who are able to show up, in order to better understand where big (and sometimes lonely and scary) emotions, thought patterns, and behaviors are coming from and how to move forward with these. I work with highly-motivated adults who wish to dig deep and heal.

John McDowell, LPC. A core desire in life is to be fully known and accepted. At the heart of being known is the need for full honesty with ourselves and others in the midst of growth in changing life experiences. Honesty with love and humility leads us into dynamic freedom. Many people hide their realities or internal struggles in shame, fear, and performance.

Together, we will create goals and interventions that work for you! I help clients navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, addiction, and more by blending cognitive therapies with Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, breathwork, and somatic practices.
